Weird power loss...

Recently, I've noticed some power loss at the oddest time. It'll take off just fine, but thenit seems like it loses power, then kickes back in again. It seems as if it should be in the powerband, but it loses power. Any ideas?

Thats weird my maro did the same thing, then the SES light went on. I took out my Jet chip so I could get the car serviced and then I put off the servicing becuse I had no money. Then it went away, I popped the chip back in and everything has been great for the past 2 months.
Sorry to hear your problem...I wish I knew a better cure.

Well, I at least know I'm not alone. The only difference is, I don't have a performance chip. It'll only do it sometimes. For instance, I pulled onto the exit road from college and it had no umph. Then I pulled onto a road from college and it was fine. Just a few minutes later, I go to an entrance ramp and floor it, sped up, lost power, then kicked in again, all while the RPM's were still going up. My car is going psycho.

Put a timing light on the balancer and see if timing mark bounces around.
Could need a timing chain

well if you scroll down the threads you will find my hesitation saga....sounds like it might be what your car is doing as well. to make a long story short....while in the mid rpms my car would surge kinda, from having power, to nothen, to power again. well after changing out the distribuot, ignition module, fuel filter, O2 sensor and checking for adequete fuel pressure it turned out one of my spark plug boots was cracked and instead of spaking the #3 plug all the time, it would spark against the alternator mounting bracket....not very effective. so i cut a new wire and runs great. i would say start easy....check your wires and plugs...then maybe do the fuel filter, its cheap and good to do....then if that isn't it you can aim for other things like O2 sensor, TPS, distributor, ignition coil, etc....hope that helps. at least if its similiar to the hesitation i was feeling

I'll have to check that KED. I'll see if one of my friends had a timing light. The SES isn't coming on. Could it still throw a code?I did a tune-up at 88,766. I'm now just past 106,000, but I haven't checked them since. I'll have to check into this stuff. thanks guys and I'll keep ya posted.
