got my 91rs for 2500, imaculate condition. you could eat off this motor it was so clean. the previous owner instaled sparco racing seats in it, stereo system, complete custom colored interior. the motor ran great, little weak though the only way i could lose traction is with the gas floored and hard into a turn. ive since ripped the v6 out to replace it with my current project but it was really good while i had it.
I paid $450 for mine. Friend of ours has a kid in college and he still owed her $450 for the loan she gave him for it. So it was mine for that. Had to dig it out of the snow in New Hampshire so the police could run the numbers and get me a title for it. A week later, I drove it out of a snow bank and I love her still today!
It's got paint issues, going to paint it in the next month or so, but the engine is a workhorse. Overheated bad last week and nothing is wrong with it. I love it! I'm impressed how she gets up and goes for me on the highway...... no need for a bigger engine. Just want to make mine look nice. (Which will be a lot of elbow grease and time!)
Just saw this thread bump back to the top, so I figured I'd add my 2 cents since I've got two of them now.
1. '92 bird, 3.1/T5 with 188k. I got this car for free because the kidney foundation took too long to come pick it up as a donation. No headliner, no radio, broken driver's seat, nose cone cracked and falling off. Front brakes were metal on metal, exhaust had holes in three places, previous owner decided to cut out the intake air temp sensor (WTF!??) and the rear springs were so flat, the whole rear of the car would slam down on the axle over the smallest bumps. Since then, I've fixed/replaced all of that (still waiting to get the new nose painted) and more over the course of two years, and the experience has helped me pass several ASE tests so far (3 down, 5 to go!).
2. '89 Firebird - 131k. Purchased this back in December for $800 with half the engine in the trunk. Previous owner started rebuilding the 2.8 from the ground up when he got a deal on a TA with an L98 and decided to abandon the project. My friend and I bought it as a project to work on with his little bro who just got his license. The plan was to reassemble the rest of the engine and have him pay us back a little at a time so that he'd have his first car by the time we were done. Unfortunately for us, the block was cracked behind the starter and we never noticed until we filled up the radiator and coolant started pouring out the side. Another $500 later, plus who knows how much in gaskets and other odds and ends, and we're swapping in a 3.4.
I paid $900, I got lucky, I've never seen another V6/T5 car go for so cheap that runs and drives as well as this one. I've been looking for another, and most are way over $2000, and in much worse shape

i only paid 1500 for my 92 bird, but i have long history with this car, my father bought it in 93 with 12k on the odo, then when i turned 16 i bought it off him.
I got mine back in 2001, it's a 1991 Firebird and got it for $2700. Paint job on it was 1 year old and still looks great. It had a big hole in the muffler that made it sound great. Interior was in great shape; no tears in the seats and dash pad looked brand new.
how much did everyone pay, and what condition were they in??? any extras?? (stereos, exhaust, etc....)
I traded a pos 77 chevy pick up for my 91. then got an 87 for the body parts for 460. spent lots and lots of time re doing the wiring on it because it was pretty messed up. Ive got it running pretty good and with the trans am vented fenders, formula hood, 87 lights front and rear she's looking well worth the trade and small investment. I will post pics of it soon
a couple months ago i paid $800 for a '91 bird, 3.1 with a t-5, has 140,000 miles, and been sitting in a barn for 3 years. needed a starter, all new gas lines, and rear brakelines, also i need a headliner if anyone can help with that one.
92 3.1 auto trans- $400 The body is in great shape with little to no rust (amazing for here in VA). It wasnt running (still isnt) owner said he put a distributor, fuel filter, plugs and wires. Car would run for 1 minute then die. After mobile mech did the parts swap it ran for 5 min then died. So I got it without the distributor in it cause he returned the parts he could. Other than that he said the tranny was good and everything else looks good as far as interior and such. This is a project that my 13 yr old son and I are gonna build up.
I got my 92 RS in June of 2009 and paid $2000. It was a one owner with 88k on the clock and is the rare Purple Haze color. The interior was perfect, minus the dry lakebed for a dashpad! Car obviously sat in the sun for years as along with the dashpad, the paint is beyand helping and the Lexan Tops are crazed.
$200 still need to pay her and get title. she just needed to get it out of her ex BF yard. still need to get the thing working though. she told me that if she would have realized that it was going to be this much problems she would have just scrapped it. so i am really happy i am saving this car.
this thing was infested with mice, bull ants, wasps and brown widows. no steering wheel and missing relays, part of the engine disassembled, emission lines totally cut and backassed ghetto rigged. and now need to change fuel pump. other than that it looks really nice, light spots of rust on the hood and slight bubbling above the doors. and interior looks decent.

$300. Towed home (A week after i bought it, almost got towed NOT by me! a "just sitting there" car, and i abused the fuel pump thinking it had a leak, it didnt.. one week, one gallon, ran out "two-three times. Now its sitting full with 93 Chevron Techron gas!) No battery, no hood clips. HAD "Hood pins" thats what i meant, clips. No gas, sludged.
One month later:
1) Radio (normal Pioneer)
2) PLUME at start-up (Valve guides? Replace head itself?)
3) Clean fuel injection:!
4) Oil/filter changed second time.. 10W-40
5) DIRTY coolant STILL lolol, about to go drain/flush why not:!
6)
7) Seat covers, "01 Motorsport."
8) K&N "HP-1001 Wrench-off Oil Filter", Maxlife 10W-40 Motor Oil, to full mark. I STILL have the Plume.
Next up: Spark plugs, the running coolant change, etc. :!
Almost same exact, bud Yep :!Carb too.. i will go all out to make it PURRR! (Same dumb dent, ppl tell me it needs a paint job, sure, after the CARB...)
About to go drive now, its too damn nice outside. LOL!

previous owner.(friend) rewired everything, put new tires, timing belt, water pump,
the motor supposedly has around 70-80k miles on it. motor was swapped. 2nd previous owner claims.(the person who my friend bought it from)
had it for a 3 months and repairs started to come up.
what iv put into it so far
black primer paint job 60$
fuel regulator/ new valve on injector stem 75$
new gaskets 30$
new idle control valve(s) first one(used) 20$ 2nd one(new) 80$
new rotor 10$
spark plug wires 35$
recent short circuit in the car repairs for that 75$
interior is so so. the dash is crashed to hell. tan seats are worn out , but not ripped or torn. there's no roof panel material w/e on top.
i think i honestly over paid for the bird. but meh its my first car. i thought of it as a car with sentimental value ill slowly fix it up to my likings and keep it for a long time =P

89 RS V6 2.8 $900.00 Fuel pump was out. Needed tune up. Right passanger window replaced. Interior clean only small tare in drivers seat. I love the car, but will never replace my V8 TPI 86 T-Top Iroc Z28..Bumble Bee Hot!!! Fast!! But I am restoring this one, has a nice body and inside is great! I have a V8 350 Iam thinking about putting it in it. Just don't want the head ache.. What do you think?
I paid $1800 in 1996. Interior was in bad shape, and after i bought some crashed Camaros from autions, I treated mine like a kit car and added power windows, power mirrors, pulse wipers, cruise control, extra interior lighting, overhead console, 16inch RS wheels (1991), power door locks, 1991 ground effects, dual cat exhaust,passenger power seat, gentex mirror from 1991 silverado with auto dim, compass & temp readout, Delco Cd player form 2002 chevy truck. and recently adapted in a power antenna just for kicks. mine is a 1988 base car, with T tops & a 5-speed, and is a great commuter/dailey driver.
$1200 for my 89 bird, black w/ black interior 2.8l and 700r4 tranny, ws6 suspension smokers package, automatic pull down hatch (now broken) tilt wheel, had power mirrors(also broken) manual (crank) windows, and normal door locks cruise control, rebuilt headlight motors, recent paint, little to no rust most of its life was in california, then Maryland, now its in good old ohio with me, i lover her to death but firebirds just arent my thing, trying at the moment to get a nice berlinetta, damn guy wont email me back
900 last week, 92 rs 3.1 5speed. 85k on odometer. speedometer not working, needs struts and idle arm, has some fuel issue i havent sorted out yet. (see my other post)
body is straight and no bondo. needs front glass, need matching hood, already found one in correct color for 75.
interior is an 8 headliner excellent, seats very good, dash has pad cover but cracked underneath
4 new tires and 4 extra color matched rims with studded snows. came with orig owners manual, window sticker and a set of snow cables.
$2000, 243,354 miles. 1991 Pontiac Firebird 3.1V6, Automatic, Trans-Am Apearance package, Power Windows, Power Locks. Car was in poor shape. Bought it as a project car. Didn't realize car was in such poor shape. Drove it for a week and everything started breaking down on it. Decided to park it and start fixing it. I took the engine to a friend that builds Nascar engines to get rebuilt. He found a rod bearing in the oil pan from a previous rebuild. I now have $4600 in it after rebuilding the engine, and transmission. Nothing under the hood was worth keeping. Replaced starter, alternator, smog pump, motor mounts, vapor canister, radiator, and digital EGR valve. On the inside everything was glued together. Replaced radio, got new radio pod from Hawks Third-Gin, Best advice, don't buy one with so many miles! LOL. Between Hawks Third-Gen, Classic Industeries, Rock Auto, Ebay, and Advance Auto I will have a like new car with the original engine and transmission. I have calculated that it will cost another $10800 to fully restore and paint the car. Like I say it's a project car thats going to cost more to fix it back than I could have went out and bought a new one. But I will have something old that looks new and not many of thanks to Cash for Clunkers. I did get the original owners manual, window sticker, and never opened cassette that came with the car. Remember, old never gets new, it just gets older.

that's $2500 there, and I still need to spend another:
$400 on the BC/CC paint I'm going to use this summer
$150 on a new windshield
$80 on new window sweeps
so right now I'm looking at $3150 to get the car where I want it. That about maxes out the value of what the nicest V6 cars could be worth (maybe passing it) but I can live with that. I didn't buy it to flip it. You can't flip a V6 car for a profit, unless you get a incredible steal when you buy one.
$500 for my wife's 87 SC -it looks so cute next to my 86 Z. It has some engine issues that I'm trying to figure out.
Fuel pump was replaced. Had choppy idle, hesitating when accelerating, no power, stalling issues. I messed (not replaced - yet) with TPS. then replaced spark plugs and wires gave it a good Sea Foam treatment. It was working okay until I decided to test drive it to work when the issues remerged (luckily I was only five minutes away from home). It could be bad: O2 sensor, TPS, fuel presssure regulator, egr valve, or Idle air control valve. Also the coolant fan switch connector fell apart.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know on the trouble shooting. I'm starting from the least expensive up on replacing parts.
$500 for my 83 Berlinetta. It had 66,000 miles when the odometer broke. No telling how many's on it now though. Came with a custom paint job (6+ years old) thats showing some orange peel on the bottoms of the doors. Needs a complete rebuild that I will undertake starting spring break. All I can say is, I got what I paid for lol

Paid $2200 a year ago (It's a 1991 3.1 v6 Automatic). It had 171xxx miles with a motor & tranny rebuild done at 140000 and new tires with a warranty.. Has some wear and tear on the interior and exterior but nothing too extensive. When i got it the headlights didn't open and the speedo didn't work until 35 mph and it stuttered at 45 mph.. Fixed all of those issues and prevented some future issues for around $300-$400. Still running beautifully.
700 for a 88 firebird 2.8l 5 speed trany had a couple of dents on driver side not so good of paint job had about 215,000 miles on it. Be for I could inspect it I had to re wire the brake lights and it ran real good. I got it in 2006 or 07 when I was still in school. I took it on a 80 mile drive to go fishing an when I got there it started to knock real bad. I thought it was about to blow but let it sit for 2 hours started it up knocked for about 10 second an it quit an ran fine going home. I did a lot of burnouts leaving and on a hill about a block and a half long. I have put some hard miles on it and still runs strong. I've had to do some work on it hear an there like new exaust 2.5in from cat back and got flowmaster witch I didn't really like the sound, its on my dads 91 sonoma 4.3l and sounds really good and we paid 600 for over 9 yrs ago and haven't had any problems out of. Best truck we have ever bought. Had to get a trany bc I took the wrong bolt out and brock the linkage to 5th an reverse. it was cheeper to get a trany than to fix the one I had. The rear end locked up and got a another one. I've put about 1500 in my car. Right now its not running right I think its my valves not set right or my timing is off. It idles rough but it allways did it will rev to 4k an that's it it will go to 6k and has no power. It has over 250,000 miles on it now and the cam rocker arms push rods all look in good shape bc I had to change lower intakes. There was a lot of gunk under the intake an I cleaned it out when I changed intakes. I love this firebird and I love driving it. I am planing on rebuilding it in the future after I find a good job an get my 93 s10 running.
I'm trying to find a good power adder or upgrades for my 2.8l any ideas? that is realitively cheap
or check the turbo forums from what i've seen its not as cheap as hey bolt that on and it'll go faster, which i wish it was i want to turbo my 2.8 aswell
My wife paid 18,000 for her first 88 camaro. burgundy with the ground effects gold. In 88 of course. That was a good looking car.
Then we got rid of it because of our first son was born. What a mistake.
we got the gray 88 camaro three years ago. paid 1600 for it. some surface rust but in nice shape. mileage is around 120,000. runs VERY good. for a v6 it gets up and goes....

Paid 500$ for mine. 91 Firebird with a 3.1L V6. Has an exhaust leak from the manifold on pass side (going to replace the whole exhaust system), the timing is off because the kid who claimed to be a mechanic didn't set it properly (idiot), needed all the fuel injectors replaced because it had almost no power when you gave it gas (the other firebird I have did the same thing and the fuel injectors fixed it), needs interior pieces for the dash and center console. Minus a paint job the car is great! For the price I'm extremely happy about it because I can do everything for under 500$ (gotta love having a lift and working as a mechanic)!
I got mine for $3800 in 2002 and it had only 33,900 miles on it. Was in great shape and had a audio system in it but it was a crappy one for the time. I was in high school working at a chevy dealership and got it from there. Car was worth it for sure!!! Completly stock at the time though. Ran 17.30's in the 1/4 mile on a good day.....

I just traded a pos 84 Z ( barely ran) for an 84 SC which has a stereo, flowmaster exhaust, and a grant wheel. All the struts work, the clutch is new, and everything works, but the headliner is laughable at best, and one door is dented pretty bad. it isn't pretty, and it sure as hell isn't fast, but it runs strong and gets decent mileage.

the PO put these cheezy fogs from autozone on it and the drivers seat was all ripped up but its real solid and runs great im getting to the point now where the car is almost ready for fresh paint
