If your pick up is looking ruff replace it. if you dont and it goes, you just did all that work for nothing, for less than $10, replace it

d@mn I feel stupid... when it says turn the distrutitor, it means TURN the distributor, not rotate the gears that waS stupid, wasted three hours of nothing...

ok now i got my distributor back in the right place, i cant get it positioned correctly... (that pic still didnt come up, wtf?) once i get it closer to the notched thing, the engine dies. What should I do?

man i am short, so getting to the distribotor hurts...escepcially when I drop the hold down bolt

Well if the car's running, it can't be that bad. You'd need a timing light to "fix" that mark. Look at the "notched thing"... aka, the "timing tab". It has numbers on it. YOu might need to scrub it lightly with a dishwashing pad, and wash it with some soap, to see the #'s.

When the white mark in the groove of the balancer lines up with the zero mark on the timing tab, that means the #1 cylinder (front passenger side) is at top dead center (as high as it can go).

"Advance" is when the distributor is positioned so that before #1 reaches TDC, your spark plug fires. Our motors are spec'd for timing to be set at 10 deg BTDC (Before Top Dead Center = Advanced). So you'd need a timing gun to do this ($40-up).

As to the vacuum lines, you snapped them at the top of the throttle body? That's ported vacuum, one of which runs to your fuel pressure regulator. Or, did you snap lines at the back of the motor?

The vacuum lines were in font of the engine, back of the throttle body (hit it while dropping in a 180 Stat...

already cleaned the timing tab, and i quess i bought a cheap timing light, cuase i don't have the advance thingy...

ok i confused I put a white mark where the bottom notch (forget what thats called, not good with names, everything is a whatchmacallit) meets the crankshaft pulley.

My book also said to mark the groove on the pulley, but there is like three, which one do I mark?

Do I want the groove in the pulley to meet up with "10" on the tab or the line i made that met the bottom notch?

To figure out what your timing is set at now disconect your EST wire, start your car and check the timing with your timing light. This will give you an idea of how far off you are. I all ways shut the engine down before I turn the distributor. Then start and check again.

It is possible that you have the wrong grove marked. If so do this...

1.) pull your #1 spark plug.

2). use a breaker bar or other long wrench with proper sized socket to turn your crank shaft.

3.) plug the #1 spark plug hole your finger and turn the crank. When you feel compersion turn a little more.

4.) now look at the timing tab. Is the marked grove pointing a 0* ? If not you mark the one that is and scrap off the other one.

You can also use a paper towle to plug the #1 spark hole. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SHOVE THE WHOLE THING IN THERE. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME STICKING OUT JUST IN CASE!!!
Then turn the crank shaft. When the paper pops out you are at Top dead center for the #1 piston.

I'm a b it tired so if I missed anything or screwed any thing up some one please correct me!!
