17x9.5s, what will it take?
what will it take for me to use a rim or this size all around, with a nice sized tire in the front (unsure of what size...) and a 275 50 r17 in the back... how big of a wheel spacer will i need? im also going to use a 4th gen rear, so ill have a little more clearance in the rear...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AIT&viewitem=
those are the wheels... nice arent they... i dont know if 56mm is the offset... but yeah... also i would like suggestions on tire size for the front... and how would they look you think?
Thank you!

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
275/50 will be too tall. I've got 285/40 on the rear of my car. A 4thgen rear requires no spacer. The front will take a 2.25. A 255/45 is the same diameter as the 285/40 but the staggered tire on matching wheels looks kinda' funky. Check these out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-x-...QQcmdZViewItem
275/40 on the front and 313/35 on the rears. NOW you got a wheelwell full of rubber!
255/45 on a 17x8.5 and a 285/40 on a 17x9.5.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
I have 17x9.5" in the rear with a 285 tire and it fits like stock with no modification (as long as you have the right spacer).
However I have a 17x8.5" in the front with a 255 tire and it rubs when turning. I'm less than 1/4" from the tie rod end, so if you want to go any thicker you'll be going thicker outwards which means the face of the wheel won't fit like stock. Some people on here say 275 on a 9.5" is fine in the front...but I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
the same seller has the 17x11 with 17x9s from the zr1 for the ame price but only 90 bucks shipping for the set.... i would not need a spacer for the rear even with the 11 inch wide rims? do you have spacers in the front with those wheels?

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
i could just get the wheels narrowed... ive never seen zr1 style or c5 rims narrower than 9 inchess... is widening/narrowing wheels dangerous? i have looked around and its prtty cheap to do...
but if these require too much work ill just get 295 50 15s in the back and 235s in the fronts... but i would like to have the bigger wheels for the better tires...

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
I run 17x9 (or 9.5) 275/40R17s all around... as do many dozens if not hundred of others. 2 inch spacer front, 4th gen rear. Only rubs at full lock on the driver's side. Since installing the 'LS1' front brakes, the rotor hat spaces out the wheel another ~ .25", so I don't rub at all. I say just get the 17x9s and 275s all around. You should be fine. You can get 17x8s in C5s and other wheels. With these, I don't think you'll need to worry as much about the clearance.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
does anyone have a pic of their 9.5s in the front?
i just want to know how far they stick out with 56mm offset and a 2.5" spacer.
if i am right this gives 4.5" bs

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
Get the right wheels & you don't have to play the spacer game.
I'm running 275/40/17s up front, 285/40/17s rear. I don't rub at full turning lock. I never rub going over speed bumps, through road dips, they don't stick out ANY....Nothing makes them rub. And I have NO spacers anywhere.
I'm getting 315s for the rear soon & most likely, a little hammer work will be all that will be needed to stop any rubbing in the rear.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
Stephen has a point. There are still a few companies that make 17x9.5s for our cars. I know Skulte sales them. Once you add the cost of spacers to 4th gen offset, you can just get the Snypers.
But, here are my 17x9 ZR1s...

Oh. And, yes, I'm a picture *****
Those are all on a 2.0" spacer, 4th gen ZR1s.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
Here's mine....275s front, 285s rear, 4.5" bs on all 4.
My front wheel is turned to the left slightly, not perfectly straight.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
is there any wahy to increase the clearance? and im getting a 9 bolt instead of a 4th gen rear... so 2.25 spacers all around?
285/40 on back
and 275/40 on front?
or 275 all around? performance wise which would be better all around?

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
I would think that those would fit your car. They are x8s, so I don't see clearance issues.
I run 275/40s all around. The 285s are $20-40 more a tire and you can rotate 4 275s.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
hey 91 tpi how are things in the volunteer state? or is it the 3 soverign states of tenn? are you anywhere near the mighty duck river?
i was reading your site and i wanted to ask if you are running 8's all around? i was thinking of going 10's in the rear and really beef them up but can you really get a good fit on 275's with 8 inch rims?
i dont care if they rotate, i just want them to look hot.
im old school so American mag is what i will be using - but I am an old man and they were hot when I was young.

Re: 17x9.5s, what will it take?
They are good I guess. Cold for the most part, at least around here. Not sure what you mean by the mighty duck river...??
I'm running 16x8s with 245/50s in the winter months and 275/40s on 17x9s in the summer months. I personally wouldn't run a 275 on a 8" wide rim.
