91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
Last weekend I picked up a cherry set of 91-92 wheels to replace the bent one on my car. The only thing they need is a clear coat refinish so I have been thinking about a color change.
On the top is a wheel I sanded, the bottom got a quick once over with a polishing wheel.
The wheels on my car now are black and Im not sure if I like the polished look. Im thinking about making the wheel centers a gold/pewter color with the polished lip like GTA rims.
My options are:
1. Paint one wheel black to replace my bent one
2. Polish all four rims
3. Gold centers with polished lip
So what do you guys think?

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
selfishly - for my own curiousity I would be keen to see how the gold centres look on five spokes - something I've been thinking about doing to the various tasty five spoke dish rims out there.
Maybe a computer-guy could photoshop a pic for you?

Yea I don't have Photochop and I've never seen gold centers on these rims. Hopefully they turn out well. I'll update later tonight when the paint dries.

someone is making me a photoshop with a bunch of colors, so tomorrow i'll post it up.
GTA1990 as far as I know no one has made gold z28 wheels besides the heritage rims but I'm leaning more towards that than polished.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
I bought a body work/prep kit that you use with a drill. Tomorrow I'll post up the brand.
wheels
1. brake clean and scrub wheels
2. sand with 100/150/320 grit to remove machine grooves
3. scotch brite until swirls are not visible
4. duplicator self etching primer (green cap)
5. sand with 320 grit until you can't feel a ridge
6. mineral gray metallic duplicolor bumper paint (ford color)
For the center caps I used 320 grit to remove the pitting and oxidation then carefully taped the center nut before painting

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
came out well - it accents and highlights the detail of the wheel better than the black version. Be sure to put some pics up of them mounted to the car
Now - thinking of adding any pewter bits to the car? some corvette grand sport hashes on the fender in pewter may look pretty cool

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
Actually I was thinking of doing either gray or red grand sport stripes because the interior is red

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
The gray looks hard man. While I love black on black, theres something that says to me "bbq paint and 1/2 *** job" when I see black stock wheels - no matter how well done. The dark gray just looks custom and subtle - IMHO which means absolutely nothing. Good job on the wheels.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
Thanks for the feedback. I found some other paint that it more gray than gold so i'll be changing the color at some point and I'll put up some more pictures when I'm finished.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
I really want a set of those rims, I believe they will fit my 87 Z28 (found a seller who has a set of 91's, the whole set for just a $100) But this is my question, is that spoiler your stock spoiler or did you pick it up from a shop?

The spoiler is factory for 91-92 z28's. If you want a high rise spoiler pm me and we can work something out. I would trade you my set of black rims for your stock iroc rims also.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Wheels need your opinion
Your wheels turned out nice bro! You picked a great color for them, and they look nice on your car.
I am partial to these machined face, rivetless, deep dish C5 Vette wheels (they are cheap, too). Few wheels look as nice on a third gen, in my opinion.
