Snow rims for 89 GTA

I need 4 cheap snow rims for my 89 GTA. I have 225/60 16 tires to mount. What fits?

You don't need 4 cheap snow rims and snow tires for the winter.

What you need is a cheap FWD beater to drive in the winter.

With RWD and a 57/43 front to rear weight distribution 3rd gens suck to drive in the winter.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking! These cars suck in the snow. I drove my old 82 once in 2 inches of snow back in 1996. Never tried that again!

your car looks really nice, I'd try and keep it out of the rain, the hell w snow!

Re: Snow rims for 89 GTA

The specs on a 225/60-16 tire (assuming your 16" is not a typo) say it fits wheels as wide as 8", so a used set of 3rdgen wheels would probably be your best option, for both price and fitment.

4.75 bolt pattern is hard to find for just snow rims. I might have found 4 at a junkyard.

I found 4 steel rims at the junkyard for 57.00 a piece off a 93 camaro. It's a GTA. Just don't have the badges on it.

Some weight in the rear, skinny snow wheels/tires and you'll be fine.

Re: Snow rims for 89 GTA

I bought 4 16x7.5 steel rims from a 95 camaro. I have new 225/60 16 tires. Will these affect my speedometer reading?
My original tires are 245/50 16.

Re: Snow rims for 89 GTA

Any of the stock 16x8 factory wheels will work with that size tire. Can find them used pretty inexpensively here in the classifieds, Ebay, Facebook martketplace.

Years ago I drove thirdgens as my daily driver through Connecticut winters and often to Vermont to go skiing. Offloading my skiis/gear in the dropoff lane next to the Suburbans and Expeditions then taking off sideways with a rooster tail of snow behind was pretty cool. With the 245/50R16 summer tires they were pretty bad in the snow, but with a set of dedicated snow tires on separate wheels, it was a completely different car and was fun to drive in the winter. I would run 15x7 Z28 wheels with 215/65R15 Dunlop Graspic snow tires. Ground clearance was still limiting, but just had to watch out for large snow drifts or windrows from the plow trucks (common at street intersections). Driving a rear drive sports car with snow tires in the snow is lots of fun. Steer with the throttle as much as the steering wheel (i.e. drifting).
