Anyone "slow down" with a TPIS PROM?
Are they really off on there programming with their Magnum PROMS for TPI? I actually had 7 more HP on a Dyno run when I installed the stock PROM back in the ECM. I was originally using a TPIS Level 4 PROM ($500). Any suggestions on better PROM burners?

I slowed down after installing a Performance Resource chip. I got a scanner and monitored it at a full throttle run. It turns out that because the chip was advancing the timing so much that pinging occurred and the knock sensor was pulling out about 15 deg of advance. It absolutely killed the performance. I guess its my fault because I had already advanced my base timing so I just through in the stock chip again. I'll reset the timing and retry the chip soon.

The best prom-burners are the guys that do it themselves.
For more details, read Trax's article on PROM-burning and scope out the DIY-PROM board.
Ask Trax what the thinks about the TPIS (and other) chips. They're more worthless than an AFPR.

I'm with Greg on this. The BEST chip is ONLY available when you burn it yourself as only YOU will spend the time needed to tweak it to the max.
Prom Burning is a LOT EASIER than most people think and it's a lot of fun once you get into it. The coolest thing is, of ALL the things you can do to a car, its the easiest and cleanest thing to do.
If you invoke Highway Mode, the gas savings alone will pay for all the equipment and software very quickly. Definitely within a year and probably a lot sooner, depending how much you drive and the cost of gas (which seems to be headed in only one direction these days). Think about how much money you spent on your eprom, and you could have bought EVERYTHING including a scan tool and probably a couple trips to a dyno.
People don't realize that EVERY engine is unique and different. It is impossible for an eprom writer to burn you a "perfect eprom" just based on "mods installed". It requires a lot of "experimentation and testing".
Would you install a carb based on the "pre-settings" from the manufacturer? Would you install a distributor based on it's "pre-settings? Of course not! So why do people think that eproms are different? They needed to be "played with and tested".
