Vortec porting/polishing tips

Hey all, I have done a few searches and I am hoping to find some more information on Vortec porting and polishing tips. I am having a local LS1 guy do some work on them, I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Can anyone post what they have done to their heads and hopefully some flow #'s. thanks.

i have read that the vortec heads flow so well that anywork on these heads would be small but if anywork is to be done to concentrate on the exhaust side. You wasn't clear on the guy doing the work but just because he owns an LS1 doesn't mean a whole lot

He has an LS1 that runs 10.6's on a stock bottom end naturally aspirated. He does his own porting and owns a flowbench, and wants to start working on Vortec and LS1 heads.

You'd be best to qualify how your vortec heads are going to be used.
Porting these heads generally only helps at high(er) valve lifts.
At the expense of low lift flow and velocity.
If your building a radical motor with .550/.600" lift and a single plane high rpm intake then full porting and bigger valves will work well.
But if you're building a torquey mild daily driver with a cam of less than .500" lift the stock intake port and valve job is hard to beat. Porting may actually mess it up.

The exhaust port responds nicely to a general pocket port and clean up in either case.

There was a good article about porting vortec heads recently.
Joe Mondello clearly illustrated the effect of different porting
techniques have on the vortec heads.

Read it over, study the flow charts then decide how much porting is right for you.

Vortecs can be improved mostly by raising the roof of the intake port and contouring the valve guide boss.
