Idea For The Moderators
Idea For The Moderators
A lot of times someone will ask for an opinion on a type of product: "what's the best cat-back?", "which type of cam for my set-up?", "what mod's next?", etc.,...
Sometimes the question is met by little or no response. The questions have been asked many times before or usually end in very 'vigorous' opinions, both of which seem to discourage a response from many of the folk here.
Here's a possible solution that may prove interesting and useful. How about having online surveys where thirdgenners can post their preference. Kinda like the surveys(multiple choice) that CamaroZ28.com posts occassionally. Only the questions will be relevant to the folks here.
That way if someone wants some info on which headers to buy: instead of wading through 125 threads with 1500 replies in the archives, he/she can look up the ongoing "header survey" and find 42% of respondents prefer brand "S", 30% prefer brand "E", etc. Might be interesting too to include a short reponse (25 words or less) section for the respondants, so that someone looking at the survey can see why folks picked a particular brand.
I've seen some javascript forms at places like webmonkey, that would make this 'fairly' easy to incorporate. The question being whether the proprietors of thirdgen.org think this is a useful and worthwhile concept?

Now I like that idea!!!
And I think it would be very popular here.
With over 9,000 people on these boards I'm sure you're bound to get some feedback on products.
If I may offer a few suggestions...
Take a look at carreview.com ...
Thier format is real easy to navigate and provides useful info.
One thing I think would be a key element in a review would be the users mechanical expereince.
Using headers as an example.
Some say they are a pain to install while others say they just dropped right in.
The key thing missing is the mechanical ability of the person who installed the headers.
So a battle always begins as to which is the better product.
Go to the car review website and leave a review for something and you will see how easy their format is to use.

Daz,
I'm figured that someone else had already suggested this idea, but I didn't see it as a post before so I thought I'd bring it up. Glad to see 'the ball is rolling' already.
One benefit to bringing it up publicly is that folks here(like sunbitz) can give their opinions and suggestions on how this could be implemented.
At any rate, I think this would be a much better response to questions than "read the archives", highly-subjective opinions(I'm guilty of this), mini-flames, or worst of all - no response.
