Question about Big Block Hood

This is probably a really stupid question. But do the big block hoods serve any purpose, other than looking good.

From what I've seen of them, they don't unless you cut open the hood and rig up some sort of Ram Air set up... it might help an open air element for a carb get fresh cooler air...

They're open in the back just like a cowl hood. So they can do the same thing a cowl induction hood can do (let air in). They just look different.

the hood looks awesome, but does anyone think that there would be room for a 142 cid roots type blower on a smallblock????? this is something i have been wondering for awhile
