Pace Setter catback, good & bad

Yeah, I got the bargain package from JC Whitney, only because i'm low on cash and they just put it on clearance for $110. So, being the "bargain" that it is, I have no way to put the tailpipes on the muffler 'cause there's no flange!! And no sleeve or adapter could be found at the parts stores so now i'm waiting for the speed shop to open tomorrow. Otherwise it looks like a nice package, the cat to muff pipe is actually 3"O.D. unlike the Dynomax setup they advertise now (which is what I thought I was getting, oh well) If my whole exhaust hadn't decided to fall off when I crossed a railroad grade i'd have sent this back, but i'm not that lucky. They also didn't send me the proper 4-bolt cat flange, just a 2-bolt. I suppose this setup should be good once I get it on there, but I really wish I didn't have to do all this extra stuff to bolt it up. I'd rate this package with a 2 out of 5. Ya get what you pay for.

hey there
I bought a pace setter catback for my 91 trans am. It was just over a $100 from j.c. as well. It actually is a great buy. I had a muffler shop put it on because I wanted the pipes weilded together. I had put on slp headers, so I had a 3" y pipe. The shope put on one of their h.o. cats and bent and weilded a small section to the y pipe. The cat had a two hole flange so that worked well. The only modification need on the cat back was some shortening on the driver side exhaust tip elbow to where it was weilded to the muffler. That was done to even the rear appearance. Your car may not need it. The piping is a good gage metel, but from what I was told, the muffler isn't going to last foever in the salt and snow. I didn't care since it is only a summer car for me. The sound is a nice rummble at iddle, but when you open it up, everyone can hear it. Good luck!

Cool, good to hear i'll be getting the sound I was looking for. I took mine in to a shop also, they're welding the whole thing and they're (somehow) going to put a larger length of pipe in the intermediate side of the cat(which is gutted anyway) to match up with the int. pipe, along with making the tailpipes even with the body. Thankfully I won't have to worry about the salt & snow being in Orlando FL and such.
