Rims
What's up everybody. I'm lookin to get someafter market rims for my '92 thirdgen. I've done some checkin around and I've heard that the biggest I can go is 17x9.5-which is fine-but I wanted to know if that was synonomous w/ everybody elses knowledge-I trust you all more than most people. And another thing-is there anyway I can get around the blasted 5/4.75 bolt pattern? There's been some pretty smooth rims that I've seen that don't have my pattern-pisses me off. Thanks
Well, 17x9.5 is the widest you can go without modification to the car itself. There's a few people who have 11" wide rims on the back of the car, and one that I know of with a 12" rim, but this is when you start running to inner fender wells and the fender lips and have to start moving sheetmetal around.
You can get around the bolt pattern by using adapters, which bolt onto your hubs and have their own bolt pattern on the outside. The downsides are the cost (sometimes up to $500 for the set), and some say it weakens the suspension.

What is the widest tire you can run all around on a 17X9.5 rim without it rubbing? Someone told me that I couldn't run 275/40/17's all the way around because of the sway bar or some crap like that. I didn't want to argue cause he was elderly, lol. I was thinking 5.5" backspacing in the rear and 5.25" up front. Would the 275's still rub then?
Ive got some 18x9.5 on mine. Ill have to look at the tires to tell you what sizes those are. You can run 20x9.5 if you wanted to, but the tires are those are ungodly expensive. The tires on mine (kumo supras) are already bad enough as it is, 150 each.

i have the ZR-1 rims on my 86 iroc. 17x9.5 up front *275/40's* and 17x11 in back *315/35's* they fit fine..well as long as u dont go flying off a bumb and have the rear end of the car come down hard on the tires
as far as prices.. they are BFG Geforce KD's, try the price tag of $250 each for the fronts and 285 each for the backs.

I got 17x8 edelbrock 409 rims and the look dam good. but on tires guys go tirerack.com and you will never buy a tire from anyone else. just pay 5 bucks a tire to get mounted and balanced at a tire place. and you will save hundreds of dollars. They sell rims but they are more for imports. The tires arrive the next day after you order them. So order and enjoy

I am gonna go for the ZR-1 rims on my GTA after i get everything else taken care of. They are the best looking 5-spokes that I have ever seen. They look especially sharp on a Red 90 ZR-1 when it is parked infront of my house. (i wish lol)
