Spark Plug Wires? Which do you recommend

Ok here is my application... I am 99.9% sure that I will never run my car at a track ( but you never know, closest track to me is about 2 hours away so I might take it for a run down a 1/4 mile next summer just to post some numbers).

I want to have a street performer though and I am looking at upgrading some parts. Couple of things that I am going to do is wires, ignition(maybe a MSD 6AL ), plugs (maybe AC Delco Rpaid Fires), air foil (yeah I know it ain't much but it helps a little ) gut the air intake and put a couple of K&N drop ins. I will also be putting in a custom chip in the spring

As time goes on heads and headers will be looked at. etc etc

Anyway what wires do you guys recommend? I was thinking a set of Taylor Spiro Pro's..any suggestions?

I highly reccomend the Taylor/Vertex Spiro Pro Blue silicone 8's. They did wonders for my car, but mine were the Delco-Packard's on a car with 140,000 miles on it.

I have heard good things about the MSD helicore 8.5mm. I currently have the bosch premium wire set. they work fine, but then again, i am totally stock still...

I had some experience with Taylor's in the past...had them on my 92 Sunbird GT (V6) and I did notice a small difference...especially coupled with 6 AC Delco Rapid Fires. So I guess I will go with these (seeign that I can get them locally)

Personally I don't think ignition upgrades are all that effective..well I guess every little bit helps but not like intake and exhaust mods.

i had the taylors and upgraded to the msd 8.5's......i didn't feel any difference.

street or strip; you should get the best you can afford, but i would look else where until you start getting some real power down. free up the breathing of that car with a nice header and exhaust combo as well as a good intake....you'll be a lot happier.

all the nickle and dime things add up; why not save and go for what really works. that is unless your ignition system is faulty and you need to replace it then i say go with the msd box and wires. otherwise your spending alot of money on something that won't give you any gains. (at least at a stock level)

I also vote for the Taylors; Had them for about 3 mos now and no problems. They look nice too. Good thing to see you are starting in the right place; a full tune up (cap rotor wires plugs filters) and you might want to think about replacing the O2 sensor also, they get fouled up after a while and I bet you will feel a difference w/ a new one. Then start flowing some more air in (intake mods) and slap on a full exhaust and your car will move nice! An MSD box is nice to have but I'd presonally buy a set of headers before that, just my .02 Good Luck w/ the car

I have had bad luck with my Accel 8.8 race wires. They were leaking voltage, and the stock ones did not. I am going to Taylor.

I would check out the Jacobs wires. The ones with the ceramic boots are great if you have headers.

They are also $180 I'd reccomend the MSD 8.5 SC's and the Moroso BlueMax wires. They have low resistance and are fairly tough.

call summit racing, order the MSD 8.5 super conductor wires for your year/model car, then order mallory pro-shield and pro shield heat shrink, take on boot off of each wire, slide the proshield over the whole length of the wire, and heat shrink both sides of the wire (between the boot and the start of the proshield. You should never need another set of wires for the life of that motor. The pro-shield is resistant up to 1200 degree's I think. Works perfect for header applications!

Check out the latest issue of HOT ROD magazine. They have a article on spark plug wires from all the top mfg's. They rate them by various
functions and performance. You will be surprised by the results. I have the Splitfire Dual Mag wires.

I also have the Splitfire Dual Mag wires, and I like them, but don't expect much improvement over stock unless your old wires are trashed, and don't waste your money on fancy spark plugs either.

Yeah I know what you are saying about the "fancy" gimmicy plugs. I think I will be going with a set of Taylor Vertex Spiro Pros and a set of plain ol' AC Delco's when I change out the plugs and wires.
