Posi

Where could I find a posi rear end for my 91 Camaro RS?

and what does the RS with the 305 have for Gear Ratio stock? What would a decent upgrade be?

There were tons of ratios available and there's no real way to tell unless you pull the cover off and look. I have an 89 RS and it was a 3.42, but that doesn't really mean anything. Also I had an open and installed a posi, I looked on the boards and also on ebay for one. You have to make sure that you get the right series carrier (posi) for whatever gears you have. Also you have to make sure that you get one for a 9 bolt or a 10 bolt, whichever one you have.

i beleive yours came factory stock with 2.73s (yuck). You would probably want 3.43s or 3.73s you will need the series 2 carrier when going to a 3.43 o higher i beleive (don't quote me).

As for posi's board favorites are detroit lockers or the auburn pro.

Make sure you buy a posi with the correct spline setup for your application also (28).

Axle/Gears: bunch of 10 bolts how scary is that
Factory V8:

Automatic: 2.73
Manual: 3.08
Open Differential
28 Spline

Factory V6:

Automatic: 3.23
Manual: 3.42
Open Differential
28 Spline

Find yourself a 4th generation rear with a Posi 3.42 that came out of a 6 speed manual. For about 300$ you can get Posi, 3.42s, and disc brakes.

Deroit true track! - best unit I've ever owned. Far superior of control, plus really street friendly.

as for gears, most likely 2.73... - 3.42 I wouldn't go any lower(numerically higher) unless you have/intend on many mods....

i believe the fourth gen rear is wider than the third gen is..not a straight out even swap. 3.08 and lower is series 2 carrier and 3.42 and up is series 3..."summit is your friend" (lol) just buy new gears for around 190.00 and tell them what you have...

Does that mean that if it has 3.08 or lower STOCK its a series 2 and 3.42 and up STOCK is a series 3 or is depending on which gear you choose during the swap?
