Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen one of these working, knows if they are accurate and worth the $400.00. I found it on ebay a while back and became more interested in it lately cause of my speedometer failing to work after putting in my white guages, plus i think it would look cool as hell. eBay Motors: 82-92 Chevy Camaro Digital Dash Cluster Dashes GM NEW (item 8061379259 end time May-06-06 22:27:52 PDT) thats the link to it. Im really considering on buying it. If its no good then does anyone know any company that sells good electronic dashes?
Thanks,
Nick

half decent accuracy, impossible to see if sun light is shining on it(all digitals are this way as far as I know). - CHP magazine just did a tech article on the 3rd gen camaro Autometer dash. Sweeeetttttt. -
So thats all they said was that its not really accurate?? I have tint and im usually shading the dash when im driving anyway lol so i dont think the sun would be a problem, im just worried about it all plugging right up and being accurate. You wouldnt happen to have a link for the article would ya?
Thanks,
Nick

my stock GTA digital dash is easy to see on bright days. i have never noticed an inability to read it. though i also cannot think of a specific instance when the sun was directly on it.

the factory dashes seem to be pretty good about the sunlight, but the dakota digital as well as another brand(not sure....intellitronix I think) that I have been around in other people's vehicles were imposible to see if the sun was shining in on them. AS far as accurracy....well it largely depends on whether or not you get the sensors that match the dash. If so, and you install properly, they should be fairly accurate. Autometer claims 100% accuracy with their electric guages....

Will this digital gauge panel accept a t56 vss signal. I have an 87 Iroc, I got the t56 and will be converting next weekend or so if I am lucky, but since I have a mechanical speedo, I would like to convert to this cluster with the electric speedo, if it will work that would be great, or if at least a buffer box would help. If not this one, is there another complete cluster that would accept the signal from the t56, if so it would definitely be worth it

not sure myself how the t56 vss is signalled. If it's the same as the factory elecctric vss in the 3rd gen, then yes, it would work fine. If it's on a different pulse wave/etc, then no it wouldn't work because the digital clusters are built as factory replacement.
- this is something I'll have to look into myself. I know my factory vss signal worked fine for my 96 dash, so I would think the T56 shouldn't be an issue.

so NOBODY has this exact dash in their camaro??? i've noticed that this message board tends to change the subject on everything i post lol. Im just wondering if this thing is worth the $400 bux or not. It seems cool and all but i would like feedback from someone that has already purchased / installed it....

I'll tell you right now that I don't trust it. Take a look at this:

As you can see the years are wrong.
82-84 was the same. One Gauge for the Speed & Tach
85-89 was the same. Seperate Gauges for the Speed & Tach
90-92 was the same. Electronic Gauges. (Meaning not cable driven Speedo)
This is the biggest mis-conception for all that sell 3rd gen Camaro parts on E-Bay. I've worked on several years of 3rd gen Camaros (Not any Firebirds as of yet), and let me tell you: If someone is selling a complete dash and they say "It came out of an 85 Camaro. And it will work for all 82-92 Camaros" They don't know what they are talking about. The Dashes for the 90-92Camaros will only direct fit 90-92 Camaros because of the electric dashes. You have to do some modifying of the interior firewall brackets to get the 90-92 dash to fit in a 82-89 Camaro.
Same way with the 3 piece spoilers. The ones with the brake light are wider and the 2 corner pieces are shorter and have diffrent mounting stud posistions than the ones without the light.
So to make this short: Get one from Dakota Digital, they have all of the sensors you need to make it work. Go to a place that sell Plexi-Glass. Get a piece of Plexi that is slightly tented and cut it down so that way it will be your new gauge cover and you won't have to worry about sunlight.

Covan's Classic Automotive Specialties Shopping Cart - Select an item
Here is what the article was about in the CHP magazine. It was about these covan classic gauges, a little spendy but it's autometer. It is in the June 2006 magazine, it has installation instructions and talks a lot about them. They also look very nice.

Used to have it(intellitronix/nordskog) in my 84.Is very esy to see, even if the sun is directly shining on the display.Never had a problem with accuracy(no better/worse than stock gauges). If you have a electronic speedo. You just connect the wires as the instructions ask. With a mechanical speedo(like mine)you will need the converter, which attaches between the speedo cable & trans(I put mine behind the speedo though with a slight mod.Which allowed me to keep my cruise control functional). There is one wire for each gauge that you have to connect to the proper circut to make the gauges work.I attched my wires from the inside of the gauge cluster allowing me to just plug/unplug the display like the stock gauge cluster.Eventually i got bored with the digital look & went back to my stock gauges.Heres a old pic.Originally Posted by big_nick_76
