I have a chance to buy a Megashifter..brand new in box for a 700R4. It's not the ones specifically for a 82-92 fbody but it's a general 700R4 one.

He wants $50 shipped, is this a bargain or nightmare? I have removed my entire console in my trans am so I can just put this on or do I still need a console for this to sit on?

Also was length cable should I get? I heard the ones in the box are too big.

thats a steal grab it! also I would call B&M to get the proper console part & cable size. The right size seems too long but you loop it over the trans. When they are installed right they are great. But if there done wrong it's a major Pain. IMHO.

The console cover or faceplate that sits on your center console, That covers the shifters mechanization, & has the gear position indicator on it. It make it a decent looking installation.

What is the difference between the universal 700R4 and the fbody one?

If I remember right, The Universal comes with a larger housing or cover. The one for our third gens is a lot smaller as it's made for use with thw stock center consol. check it out on the B&M web site. It will tell you all thats different.
