MAFs: Choice between "flat blade" type or standard bosch type

MAFs: Choice between "flat blade" type or standard bosch type
Does anyone have good info on the merits and durability between these two types of MAFs?
#1 is the strandard Bosch type with a inner metering ring with wires, and
#2 is the flat board type (Micro Tech or MicroTrend).
Since I am going the program the Eprom chip with new MAF scalar values, I can tune for any flow rate. I am mainly interested in durability.
I need to build another MegaMAF: electronics MAF guts cemented into a 3.5" diameter aluminum tube. My previous one lasted two years and then failed on me.

I had Advance Auto Parts bring in the two types. The Micro-Tech with the flat board looked very impressive to me. I purchased the Micro-Tech.

Do these micro tech mafs flow any better than the stock ones

I say no. The smallest ID of the Micro-Tech with the flat board is 71mm, while the Bosch is 73mm. So a little bit of flow area advantage to the Bosch type having the metering ring. The flat circuit board and the metering ring looks close to the same blockage; so i say the Bosch is better flowing, but just a small advantage.

i got the grannelli high flow which has the board just like the micro tech. ive heard about alot of issues with the bosh wire element breaking. u dont have to worry about that with the board circuit. its easy to break the thin wire in the bosch unit.

The Micro-Tech MAF seems to be alot different in how the amount of flow is reported to the ECM. I did a one for one swap, and while the BLMs for the Bosch MAF were within 3 points of 128 for all fuel cells, the Micro-Tech was way off pegging to the minimum BLM value of 108 and others staying near 128.
I have since chopped up the Micro-Tech MAF to create another of my MegaMAFs. However, I am having an issue with tuning the MAF tables. I have "burned" three Eproms, and each time the BLMs have pegged one way or another. This MAF is not stable for some reason. I wish that I could return it, but thats impossible now.

I bought a GMS maf sensor for my 87 GTA and havent had one problem yet. Although ive never tested it for anything like you guys have.

the grannelli has the honey comb screen. ive heard problems about all MAFs lol theres no real unit that gives no one any probs.
glad to hear tdavolos.... hope mine does the same!
my stock maf also started throwing that code... maf burn off problem... i swapped it with my 86 TA MAf and havent had a prob with it yet. this was after i replaced the relay etc and still had the problem. i even checked to see if it was glowing red after the key was off and it did nothing. at least i dont have to worry about that with my GMS one. i hear the GMS ones are too sensitve when compared to the stocker BOSCH types... which is why the values are so crazy
