How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

Just looking for an overall opinion on the 2" front wheel spacers required to mount a newer style camaro or corvette rim??? I just put mine on the other night and mounted my c5 zo6 rims on (it looks awesome) haha, but unfortunetly it was raining last night and rreally i havent gotten a chance to take the car out and see how everything feels. Has anyone had any problems with them?? do they stress your wheel studs, i know they state that they don't, but theres always that thought in the back of my head when I'm takin a hard corner that my front drive tires are being extented 2" out by this aluminum mount. And are you torqueing them back down to specs after the first 10 miles, then followed by every 100 i think it says? But let me know what you think, and have they been safe for you guys runnin them so far.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

I had them on my 91 z28 for a lil over a year with the y2k wheels, 18x9 1/2 with 275/40/18 tires and I had no problem, rain or shine, donuts or sliding. Dont worry, you'll be fine.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

Lots of people like them & report no problems.

But I've also read of cars had they them fail. Like the latest I heard, was on a dragstrip & the car took out a parked car, when his snapped!

Personally? I dislike the idea of having to add weight (the spacers) to my spindles to carry, plus having to run 40 lug nuts (double the amount normally needed).

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

the main issues with them happen when the are not tightened and re-torqued properly. When they get loose, they can fail. I personally would never use them, but thats just personal preference

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

Ya, since I upgraded my rear to a 4th gen luckly I'm not running spacers on all spindles like you said above, just my front 2. And as was stated, I will be very **** on torqueing and re-torqueing these spacers properly to insure safety, I was just curious on the ppl who have used them and what you guys all think about them....

One thing I just thought of that I didnt check was did anyone have any issues with larger wheel sizes rubbing on the inner fender wells (on the front) when making tight turns or any turns at all???? I'll have to check this out on my car for myself.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

I have them on all my wheels, they are 18" c5. No problems. I have found some sellers (on ebay) supply lug nuts that are great, I like the way they fit in the spacers mounting the spacer to the drum or rotor.

Larger diameter wheels are of no concern, since it is the OVERALL diameter of the TIRE that needs to be watched. Bigger wheels just mean shorter ratio tires & the result is basically the same end product.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

i got some billet ones on ebay as well as my roommate, if you go billet no problems. been years now and no problems. be sure to torque them evenly and you shouldn't have problems. i wouldn't use them on a drag car because it's another link that could fail under EXTREME torque, and it's weight, but no problems on the street.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

I bought my Formula with aftermarket rims/spacers already installed. I don't "like" them per se, but haven't had any issues with them either. I'd like to get some gray GTA-mesh stockers, but all the ones for sale are either trashed or priced insanely high.

If the wheel in question was re-made specificaly for our cars then the weight would still be there in the form of a thicker hub since the mounting surface would need to come in.

My onlky concern would be the added junction as someone else said but if the owner is good about maintaining the torque and the specific product is sound then there should be no issues. I do see many parts like this installed by owners who then neglect the car and it causes no end of frustration.

Odd question but dose anyone know if there is a spacer just the right thickness for a 3rd gen with the LS1 brake swap and 4th gen wheels?

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

I was **** about torqueing them too, but normally people who say they arent safe or that they wouldnt run them are normally people who have never used them or were around someone that didnt use them right. like nitrous, anyone who doesnt know anything jumps to "oh no I wouldnt use that, it will blow your motor". But to each their own.

+1 I agree man, extra weight on the wheels kinda sucks. But hey man thats the thing about cars, its your baby. DO IT YOUR WAY!

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

would loc-tite be ok to throw on them? I mean it shouldnt lossen up...but if it were to the loc-tite shouldn't allow them to loosen...will the heat from the rotor and brakes make the loc-tite useless?

I suppose. Can't hurt. But that doesn't do anything to reduce the added weight your adding, by putting spacers on in the first place.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

Again you are really not adding any weight compared to a wheel of the same design with the proper offset.

But my point is not to buy such a deep positive offset wheel to begin with. Therefore, yes.....They would be lighter.

Besides.....4th gen wheels look like FWD wheels.

Re: How do youlike the 2" wheel spacers??

before the "added weight" gets said TOO many time (if not already), the spacers are Aluminum with some steel studs and don't weight that much (certainly not anymore than a wider 4th gen axle/housing to eliminate the need for spacers), and yes while they are rotating mass unlike the axle they are small/light and on the axle of rotation so the "extra weight" argument in only valid on a max effort type application.

with that said, if properly torqued they present no problem for structural integrity, unless again in a max effort race car on very sticky tires then they might be a problem? but then again they bolt on to your hub/axle flange like your wheels do, and again bolt that same way to to your wheels so why would the spacers (adapters really) break off when wheels stay on every day? they wont. they put no more stress on your studs than a corvette rim puts on a corvette's studs, you just have 2 full sets of studs

i personally have 2" spacers out back and 1.75" up front and have auto-crossed, drag raced, driven 15k on the street and have had ZERO problems.

yeah so what he's saying is you should do is buy some "proper looking wheels" like ZOH snypers that have the right offset for a 3rd gen and then pay to have them custom powder coated black and widened to the size you want so you dont have to run spacers which are the most terrible thing ever.

saved ya from having to type it out again man!

if you are running a ls1 front brake setup to compensate for the extra rotor thickness you run a 1.7 spacer on the front and a 2 in the back (the ls1 rotor sitting on top of your hub pushes everything out .300)

Sigh... I've been having that problem for a year. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be getting any cheaper or less trashed.

Oh, and to get back on topic--my car had Vette rims with spacers. I've had no physical problems with them, but I do have philosophical problems with them. They're just adding even more unsprung weight to the car than the big rims and tires already do, making the suspension's reactions even sloppier, and causing more wear on the shocks.

And about retorquing them: It's a bit of a PITA, since you have to pull the wheels off, retorque the spacers, put the wheels back on, and then retorque them after a few miles. If you're doing it the old fashioned way (floor jack, breaker bar, and muscles), you'll not enjoy it, and you'll rue the day you ever have to take them off and put them back on.

I'm actually getting rid of my Vette rims and spacers tomorrow, oddly enough. If that deal falls through you'll find them on here in the classifieds shortly.

reminds me, because i was only thinking about the rear. on the front it's tricky to torque due to not having a parking brake up front, sooo.. get a buddy to step on your brake. just another point about spacers
