spark plug wire location need advice
spark plug wire location need advice
hi,i saw a motor on the net the other day, with its spark plug wires in a weird different location, well maybe its common but i personally never tried it,,they just go straight back from the plugs with a 90 degree booth, and run along bottom side of head underneath the headers,,,, does that make any sense?i mean, too much heat? if so, could i maybe seperate them withthe separators and then wrap em with dynamat,or some kind of heat shield? let me know what you think,,, i kinda like the idea of not seeing them,,its a tuned port with the cap that covers the timer so it would be pretty neat,,

Nice aftermarket parts review. LOL!
Um, that's just running them under the headers. Very common practice for those of us with headers. Heat isn't an issue if you do it right and use good wires and shield them where needed.

You posted in the wrong sub-forum. Shouldve been in exhaust maybe? Ignition/electrical?
With some headers, it's your only choice. For example, the Edelbrock ones with air tubes and that weird arrangement of pipes:

Those would burn within five minutes of starting the car.
My solution was the Moroso 72195 kit (google it, this site doesnt like us linking to non-vendors). If your heads dont have three bolt holes on each end, you might have to fab a bracket for the left side like so:

Installed it ends up looking like this

The wire holder fell off my homemade bracket in this one, I later fixed that with a cotter pin.
It does take some careful routing of the wires, plus making sure they stay tight, and using a set of custom cut-to-length wires, but it can work well and look good.

Back in the days of the ram's horn manifolds, Chevrolet ran the wires down the back of the block, then along the oil pan rail towards the front of the engine. IIRC, the wires for cylinders 1-4 ran up between the engine mount and block up to the plugs.
If you have header clearance, this is a clean way to run the wires.
