Rim Screws

Who uses them and at what HP should I consider using them? I am talking about the screws that are used to mount a slick to a rim.

Mark your wheel/tire, make a pass and check out the marks. If they are not lined up then you are ready for screws.

Both Moroso and Mr. Gasket sell rim screws. don't use regular sheet metal screws, the heads will strip/break off when installing. if you are running low pressure in your slicks (below 10 lbs) or using tubes, you will need screws when you reach a 1.40 60' time (about a low 12 sec qtr). if you are tubeless, mark the tire position in relation to the valve with a wide shoe polish stripe and watch for turning the tire on the rim. if it isn't turning, you don't need screws.

SB the screws aren't long enough to go through the bead, just hold it.
