Edelbrock headers

I'm sure the edelbrock headers have been talked about on here a million times by now, but I'm new to the site and haven't seen any old threads about them yet. But I'm about ready to get them for my car. For those of you that have or had them, what did you think about them? Did they fit ok, did they give any noticeable power gain, could you still get to your spark plugs? I heard before that the black paint that they come with burns off and leaves the headers looking really bad. Anyone else seen this? Any info is appreciated. BTW I have a '86 Z28 305 TPI with free intake mods, K&Ns, Hypertech coil, Accel plugs, and Edelbrock cat-back exhaust.

My Edelbrocks had to have the Y-pipe reformed to fit around the oil pan. Its almost impossible to reach the far back sparkplug on passenger side.

Everything fit perfect for me. It was a very easy installation. About sparkplugs I can get all of them in 10 minutes. I've just done it so many times i've learned tricks. Power increase they dropped about .3 off my times. Black paint well i got mine jet coated.

I've been really happy with mine too.

They fit fine, came with all the little stuff to make installation easy, not too bad changing plugs,(10-20 minutes), and I picked up 3/10's in the quarter after switching from a pretty restrictive 2 1/4" dual setup.

As far as the paint coming off it's not any worse than any other header. I wish I would have had mine coated though.

Do a search on the exhaust board and you'll see how bad Edelcrock headers are. You'd be better off with Hooker headers for your car.

I've got some Edelbrock headers I'm about to sell (TES i think). They're coated, and smog legal....like new. If you're interested, email me and i'll give you more details.

I have them on my 305tbi and love them. Install was fairly easy, about a 4hr job. I had mine jet-coated, I highly recommend this, and after 3 years they are still looking great. I picked up .25 in the 1/4 and about 3.0 mph through the trap. A word of advice though, DON"T USE THE GASKETS THAT COME WITH THE KIT, they will blow out in no time. Get yourself some copper gaskets and be leak free. Good luck

I second that....if you use the crappy paper gaskets, you're just asking for trouble....lots. Replacing those gaskets is a pain.

Cool. Thanks for the all the info. All of you have definately given me something to think about. But my tranny is costing me about $800 so I got some time to think about it while I save some money. Thanks again.
