Ah great! Thanks guys for these "issues" that you brought
up!

I thought that the pedals and clutch master for the T-56 were
the worst part of my project!

Anyways, I have a new set of motor mounts, but I'd like to
use the poly ones. So, poly. could make the clearance worse?
How is that when new rubber ones will make it better?
Knowing that new ones are obviously "taller" than old
ones, since they are not collapsed from wear. Wouldn't
poly make even more clearance?

Jeez, SLP really made these headers a real friggin tight
fit, huh?

Just need to vent.....I have always been pleased with my parts/service from slp, but i just was at there website and the sell parts to the darkside now. First time i see a stang with and SLP windshield banner im gonna blow! But i guess since theres no more f-body for them they need to diversify.

I just put the poly. ones in. What a PITA! Drilling out the rivets
was ok at first, but then tie wrapping the pieces together took
some convincing! I bought the Prothane ones from Spohn, if
you are wondering. Then bolting them back on the crossmember
was no F'n picnic!

I hope to the heavens that I don't need to do this again! I will
mess with the steering shaft and such before I even attempt
to go back to stock mounts.

I have to agree with you on the parts end, but the service
end I don't really care for. I had to just pray and hope to
get my headers from them. It took 6 weeks to get them.
They never emailed the UPS shipment notice. The last two
times I ordered from them I got my emails and parts in very
quickly. But I guess I ordered the headers at the worst time.

Some people here don't like the parts quality and the service.
But for me, the zexel torsen diff, light weight flywheel and
headers/ y-pipe look great to me! They have been around for
almost 15 years, so I think they have some clue as to what
they are making. Service, on the other hand, is a totally
different thing.

I understand about the Mustang with an SLP banner.
Remember this, SLP was using GMs LONG before they touched
a stupid cheaply made Ford. The "Firehawk" was the first
thing they touched back in 1992. Correct me if I am wrong.
And I believe that they started making performance parts
for GMs first.

when i pulled my A arms for bushings, i welded the motormount nuts to the chassis. it saved me a lot of suffering when i went back to rubber.

my SLP horror story:

my engine is on the hoist, my car is tieing up a lift at my friends shop, and my vacation time is ticking by. My exhaust however is no where to be found. I called my dealer to find that the exhaust is in stock at slp but they won't be able to ship it for 5 busines days!!! huh? you have it but can't get it on a truck for a week?? i had to stop working on my car and drive from queens ny to tomsriver nj. 2 1/2 hrs each way so i could take off the loading dock and put it in my car. GREAT SERVICE.

WOW! That's sucks. I knew about SLP's service. Just from
reading here. They sound just as bad as Thirdgen resource!
:lala:

I wish Spohn would make a 1 3/4" shorty header kit!

Hey Steve Spohn, you got the equipment and skills,
make us some!!!!! That way, you get great parts
AND great service! I always have from Spohn since
2002.

Actually I think Street Legal Performance started out with Chrysler/Dodge high performance parts way before getting into GM. Wasn't it started by a guy named Ed Hamburger(sp)? Or I am I just a confused old man?

Ed Hamburger is right. He is the founder of SLP. But as far
as SLP making/selling parts for Chrysler/Dodge, I don't
know. It would seem more logical to start with GM since
Dodge had NOTHING back in the late 80s/early 90s except
the Viper. It would make more sense to start with GM because
of the Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, Impala SS, Monte Carlo
SS, Buick Grand National, Buick Regal T-Type, Chevy Caprice,
etc. What did Dodge have? A Viper? What else? Seriously,
I have little knowledge of the history of Dodge and Chrysler
because I never liked them, nor will I ever.

Does anyone know if SLP started with GM, or Dodge?

Ed Hamburger has been around for a long time, and I have no idea what he got his original company started with (Hanburger oil pans), but, as SLP, it all started with the thirdgen F-body.

Well, I got the motor in with the SLP headers bolted on.
Guess what??? THEY FIT! NO problems! Well, one slight
problem. The brake lines were a little too close to the
headers, so I just removed the steering shaft, reshaped
the lines, and stuffed the shaft back in. NO steering shaft
hitting the D/S header and NO brake lines too close to the
header! I have about 1/2 to 1 inch clearance on everything.
That's with using new polyurethane motor mounts.

You guys HAVE to be doing something wrong. I even
checked the Y pipe. That clears everything too. Maybe
you guys have headers that were not made well at the
time they designed them. I purchased mine about
2 months ago. Just some thought, maybe they finally
decided to redo their header design on the machine?
