I'm posting this to get a feel for how others have done when dealing with SLP Engineering.
I'm currently waiting for my Headers and Cat-back system from them. The Cat-back system was in stock at the time of the order, but the headers were being built. They told me they would be in and ready to ship on 4-18-04. Well, I still have no exhaust parts. I've called several times, and gotten excuses. The last call said that they were out to be coated (I order them uncoated!) I said I don't buy that, then they said they were waiting on collectors..... I asked when I could expect them, they say they should be in Friday (5-7-04) and should be in the system ready to ship Monday (tomorrow, 5-10-04). I'm calling them to confirm this tomorrow, as I've been without my car for over a month longer than expected. I think they should do something, like Overnight shipping at no additional charge or something of the sort.
I in no way want to bad-mouth them, I know they have excellent products, I just want to know if I'm the only one waiting this long!!!

i bought mine from slp throught thirdgen resource. didnt take too long, but the header coating is already turning brown so i can hopefully have something done about this.

i had the same problem, it took them about a month to send me mine, and mine are turning all sorts of colors!

I've done a few with them. Got a good deal on one of the last Dana 44s they had. Took about a week to get it. Had it shipped to a friends shop to save on shipping. Got a great deal on 1 3/4" non AIR headers. They showed up quick also. They always included a freebie. (hat, license plate frame, key fob. etc) Would deal with them again. Sometime stuff happens. I'm waiting 3 plus weeks on $1,200+ order from a board sponsor. I knew when I ordered that one item had to be built. The other kit was supposed to ship right away, but I got an e-mail on the 4th telling me that they had to get parts from CA. and would ship in a week. That week has come and gone. I've bought from them in the past and got prompt service. I'm not worried, like I said, sometime stuff just happens.
Senior Member
Never a problem always prompt and correct. Jegs is the only one I've ever had any major issues with.
Thatnks for the re-assurance in them, although I still haven't seen the headers, and it's been like 6 weeks. They were supposed to be in stock 4 weeks ago, abd last I got to talk to anyone, they say they'll be in stock tomorrow.
I also asked to talk to a supervisor, was told I'd be transferred to voice mail, then I had nothing on the other end for like 60 secs, then I hung up. I have also been trying to get directly to my sales rep, and it's always the message of I'm away, or on the phone. No returned calls either.
This order is through the shop where I work, and if this were a customer's car, we'd be really having issues trying to explain the excuses we keep getting. Makes me kinda hesitant to order anything for customers......

I got my SLPs thru David at Thunder Racing. I suggest that if you do have them coated by Jet Hot or ACS, test fit them first! I had to cut one of my pipes to fit after they were coated and it ticked me off.

I agree with Ed. Test fit before coating.
....I got my SLP's through ThunderRacing too. No problems.

I spoke with my sales rep today, they said they are now in stock and will ship tomorrow. He said he'd call me tomorrow with a tracking number, and to let me know if they can do anything for me, due to the long period of time since the order was placed (4-8-2004).
I was a bit upset over the fact that I had left messages for him a few times last week, but he said he was "out for a few days". I can buy that, but I really wish he would've had someone contact me, or at least change his voicemail message to reflect that he wasn't in.
Well, enough griping, now I'm just excited to get them, and get everything installed!
I'll update after I get them on the car!

Still no headers.....Talked with a different guy today at SLP, and he says they are NOT in stock. They didn't even have any other 1-3/4 inch headers they could substitute......This is getting ridiculous.....6 weeks later......2 weeks ago, I was able to accept the "stuff happens" theory, but this is over the edge......
I'm glad to see they're still supporting the very platform that was the start of the SLP name....... It seems they're too busy with parts for Mustangs, and FWD GM's to take care of the thirdgen stuff.....
Are there any other decent 1-3/4 in., shorty with y-pipe, headers out there?
Forgot to mention, they even had checked with some of their customers that normally stock them and nobody had them......
What do I do?????

Let's get this straight, you talked to a sales rep on the 19th and he told you they were in stock and would ship the next day. Then on the 21st another guy tells you they are not in stock and they do not have any to ship? This has been going on for a month and a half?
I agree with you, this falls under the category of the old runaround. This is not "stuff Happens" it's
. I hope you have the name of everyone you talked to. It is time you talked to the head cheese and tell him the story. It would be acceptable if they were consistant in their story and told you up front they were having trouble supplying their product. No one likes to treated in this manner. Talk to the head guy and ask if he would like to led on like you have.
Yeah, I know I' m the guy who said "sometime stuff happens", but it is obvious this goes beyond that when he gets conflicting stories from these people. This shows a break down of communication within the company. They should have been upfront with the guy instead of baiting him and building his hopes up.
Maybe you should consider a set of Hooker long tubes? It is probably more work but you will get more out it considering your setup.

I have kept the names of who I've talked to. When I asked about a week ago to talk to a supervisor, I was told that they'd transfer me to their voicemail, but it never went there! I sat on my phone (cell phone) for about a minute after, waiting to hear ANYTHING, but nope, nothing. I hung up, then called back the next day.
I'm going to call Monday and insist on talking to a supervisor, and not take a transfer to a voicemail box.
They still haven't charged my card for anything yet, so there's no real issue, other than I want to spend my money with them, but they don't have the product to sell! I'm not out anything.
I really don't want to go with long-tubes, although I'm sure they'd work well. The shorty's are easier to install, and have a y-pipe with them, where the LT's would need stuff fabbed for them. It's not that I can't do the work, it's just not way I want to do it!
Thanks for reading, I just need somewhere to vent! Frustrating....
On top of that, I've had a couple lengthy posts get lost over the past few days because my ISP is crap, and stops responding.....

Man I feel for you! Nothing worse than waiting on pieces/parts. Especially when the car is down and you can't drive it. BTW, are going for AIR or non AIR headers? Dual or single cat? Who else have you checked with? With the way SLP has been stroking you, I wouldn't take their word on whether or not they checked other sources. If you need some help looking let me know. I don't work and have a broadband connection. (Since you have a crappy ISP.)
SLP has everyone by the short hairs on 1 3/4" shorty headers. They are the only game in town.

Non-air, single cat 3" slip fit.
I haven't had time to check with anyone else, but I will be next week.
The thing that sucks about all this is that I really need the car so that I can do some work to my daily driver before it blows up (bad valve guide).
I also have a broadband connection, but I've had to reset it daily, at the minimum..... I need to call them, too!

I just noticed this post. I want to get the SLP 1 3/4"
headers without AIR as well. I want the coated ones
too!
Maybe I will try Spohn instead of dealing with SLP
directly! Sounds like SLP has "Thirdgenresource"
working for them! :lala:
I can tell you from experience that Spohn has very good
service.
Try here as well----->http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1457

Hmmm...I didn't know that Spohn was carrying them!
The issue with going elsewhere is that we have a business account set up with SLP, and the pricing is different, and it would be difficult to offer stuff to our customers that would take so long to deliver.

Ok so how long have you used SLP? If not long or
if this is your first time dealing with them, you may
want to change accounts to some other business.
I have heard that SLP has "so-so" serivce, but carries
good product. With that said, I would try to go some
other route to get your parts from.
They should NEVER had to keep giving you excuses
or what not. They are a friggin' high volume, widely
known high performance facility.
If I was SLP, and you called and said "why are the
parts not here yet?" I would say the truth. If I messed
up the order, I should tell you up front, then correct
it AND give you a specific time frame to when they
will be there or give you a full refund if they are not
available for a while. But for some reason, some places
stay in business and have terrible service. How? I
don't know. But they do.
Only thing if you have to stick with SLP is, "cross your
fingers!" Hope you get your headers ASAP! Good luck.
If you keep on getting the "runaround" ,you may want to
just get your money back, and drop SLP completely.
I have dealt with SLP once before. I had no problems
then, but I will not use them now. I will go with Spohn since I
have to buy suspension parts from them anyways.

UPDATE ON THE SLP HEADERS!:
SLP ARE BACKED UP ON MAKING/ORDERING THE HEADERS!
I just ordered a set of headers through Spohn.net. Steve
told me that the headers will not ship out until the third week
of June! Even my torque arm won't ship until then either!
Thank goodness that I am in no rush, otherwise I'd be pissed
off!
P.S. After the talk about NOT ordering through SLP, I ended
up ordering a lightweight flywheel from them! Ah well, it
doesn't matter if that takes a month either, cause I won't
have everything until then anyways.
Later!

Third week of June?!?!?!?!
I wouldn't believe that even though it came from a reputable source (S. Spohn)
What is there to make us believe what they tell anyone?
I find it difficult to believe it could take so long to make them. I could have custom fabbed a set by now, and had them out to be coated! And that would be just in my spare time! If I had the resources to do something like that, I would be doing so....I'm sure they have all the bends programmed into a computerized bender, flanges, etc stamped.....
Is there anything they have in stock? Maybe I had better ask about the cat-back system I have ordered.....Make sure they hold on to it......
2 1/2 months to get a set of headers? I just don't see it. I think I'll be putting the car back together WITHOUT SLP....

I figured that I'd edit this post. I will give Spohn
and SLP a break! ( For now!)
UPDATE:
I got my SLP steel billet flywheel today! WOW! I'm
impressed. I got it in a matter of 5 days, which includes
Sunday and Memorial day. The part came in great condition.
And really is ligher than stock!
Now for those HEADERS!.........
They should be shipped out in three weeks, and I should
expect them in 4 weeks from now.

Well, I think I got good news yesterday. When I got to the shop, my boss said that SLP had called, and the headers have shipped, and I should see them Thursday at the latest. The thing that I'm questioning is the fact that my account still doesn't show that they've charged them yet. It may still be in process, but I do hope that they're on the way! I can't wait to hear it, and see how much of a difference a godd exhaust system makes on my car. I have the entire SLP package coming......
Patiently waiting......

Patiently waiting......
Oh, yeah, I never had the first question about Spohn, from what I've heard, Steve runs an excellent business..... And seeing that the suspension upgrades may be right after the transmission, I may be dealing with him myself pretty soon!
(I just didn't want any of my previous comments, that mention Spohn, to be taken wrong)

Yeah, I've used Spohn for the past 2 years. Never had
a problem with them. Always delivered fast shipping!
I got my steering brace and motor mounts within like
5 days (includes weekend) from purchasing online.
I am not going to expect my headers to arrive until
3 weeks from now. Just like Steve Spohn told me,
it will take until the 3rd week in June when they ship
out, then add about 1 week for shipping time. That's what
SLP told him. I could have just used SLP directly, but I didn't like
the way things were going the first time I read this thread. This
way, I can blame Steve for everything! LOL. Just kidding Steve.
He is also going to e mail me a tracking number/UPS notice
when everything does ship out.
I ordered my motor, and will probably be here before my
headers get here. Not that that matters, since that's like
1 of the last things to put on the motor. But I'd like to
have every part here and no problems before I tear down
my car.
As far as why SLP told your boss that they will ship out, but
you are not charged for them yet is strange. Maybe it's
just that it didn't show up on your account yet. Check your
account again tomorrow. Maybe it will show up then.

Got 'em! Still far from happy....(No, I'm not a whiner, read on!)
Now for the rest of the story.....
Got charged $80 for 3-day shipping, instead of $40 for standard. I had never asked for 3-day shipping, so that is bogus! That's what's on the shipping invoice anyway.
Now, I open the box, and thought it looked a bit small for everything I had ordered, and there wasn't a second box either...
Opened it up, headers look great, as I expected (quality is the reason I went with SLP to begin with, along with them being the only ones doing the 1 3/4 primaries.) The headers, install kit, catalyst adapter...All there. All would be fine if I wanted to run open headers!!! They didn't ship the cat-back system!!! I had even asked, the last time I had called, for them to verify that everything else was in stock. I should have told them to bill and send what they had, then send the headers when they got them.
This is so frustrating..... I was told Monday that I would have my order by thursday, I was all excited to install everything and be able to drive my car again (It's been over 2 months!!!!) but no.....they had go and screw that up for me again!
Now I don't think our shop is going to be doing any business with them, unless they do something to make all of this right..... Free shipping would probably do it for him, but now I'm thinking I want them to throw in the LG4 style A/C bracket, too. And, I thought they would've put a hat or something in the box, like Jeg's and Summit do, but no, just a SLP sticker.....If this doesn't turn out any better, I'll just burn the sticker, and remaove the SLP logo from my headers.....
If I had any idea things were gonna be this crappy, I would've gone ahead with the transmission, or something else that's on my list......
AAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!
Thanks for listening to me rant......

Steve Spohn than dealing with SLP directly! Again, it seems

far as no hat, SLP doesn't give out hats, just stickers. I wish

up, so they should give you MORE back. Well, you can take
a partial refund. I am just saying to get as much as possible
back from those idiots!

Has the most screwed up, rude, and unorganized customer
service in the history of the F body! Anyone DARE to argue with

their unsatisfied customers!

Well, I have a tracking number for the rest. It shipped out their door today. I had to call them twice to get that much out of them. But, I did get to have a pretty lengthy discussion about the whole issue, and some insight as to what happened.
They acknowledged that the thirdgen f-body is where they got their start. I acknowledged that the newest thirdgen is 12 years old. Makes sense that the demand is dropping, but they should still maintain a stock, because as we can all see from this board, the thirdgen community is still thriving, and people are still looking for good aftermarket parts for them. Then I was told that they had a group purchase wipe them out just before I placed my order. Understood, difficult to understand a 2 month lead-time on something that they should be able to build pretty easily by now, but I didn't even complain about that. My biggest beef was that they weren't doing anything to try and make me happy. He came back with the fact that the 3-day shipping as opposed to their standard 4-day (I could've driven there and picked them up overnight). Well, that would've been great, but not everything showed up! The basically wasted their money, because I'm even angrier, since I don't have enough to complete the installation without paying to have an adapter to run my current stock exhaust for four days! I kept making the point that I had called last week to verify that everything else was in stock, to ship with the headers when they came in. I would've gotten just as far talking to the wall.....
Anyway, I was told that my situation was known pretty well throughout the company, and that I wasn't the only one. He said that there's someone that placed an order on 4-19 didn't get his headers because they didn't have enough to go around, and it may be another month before they can fill that order. I feel for that guy, I know what he's going through!!!
Basically, I think that they're in the mindset that since I have the stuff, they have their money, all is well.
I did make sure to let my rep know that this is nothing personal against him, and that he had done OK, and that I realize that all he could do was what he was authorized to do. I really hope that he did all he could after saying that about him!
The last thing I said (I had said this a few other times, also) is this:
I came to SLP based on quality, and reputation. I'm thrilled with the quality, what I have so far looks awesome, and well-built, but the reputation is gone. If I need anything SLP in the future, I'll pay more for it through a third party to avoid dealing with them directly. I also asked for that comment to passed along up the ladder.
Hopefully this is the last I have to say about this.

I am glad that you got somewhere with the rest of the order.
Hope that the rest of it is ok. And again, I am glad that I
dealt with Spohn instead of SLP directly. Also, the "thirdgen
F body" is old now and not as "in demand" is
why?
Because there are the first gen F bodies that are in demand
for aftermarket performance parts as well! In fact, ANY classic
or antique american muscle car is and always will be in demand
for parts. Just some more than others. It would make sense
that an older vehicle would need to have an aftermarket parts
source, because it maybe the only thing making the car what
it is. Evenually, the factory dealer parts will be discontinued,
so where do you go from there? Aftermarket, or some form
of reproduction source. I am sure you knew this already.
But the fact that they tell you that the F body is old now
and not as in demand as it was is a total lie! There are literally
dozens of thirdgen websites, and I still see at least a dozen or
so at the car shows every year! And of course it's now old, no
kidding. Even a 2 year old can figure that one out. AND, another
thing, HOW can they say that the demand is dropping when they
just got a group purchase AND STILL have a hard time catching
up making the headers? It does not make any sense. I am now
convinced that SLP has retarded customer service! I did read
somewhere on this forum that SLP carrys good product, but so
so service. I guess that is true. Especially after reading your
posts here!
I guess people just don't care about customer service
anymore. Yet, aren't WE the ones who keep them in
business????
Ok, I am done ranting now. It feels good to do that!

Got everything finally on Monday (A day earlier than expected.....Thanks UPS!)
Installed the headers, had to lift the engine out of the mount about 1.5" on the left side to get the header in.....Modified my LG4 A/C bracket (I wasn't about to spend another $40 + shipping for SLP to send me one!) Bolted up the Y-pipe and the fit is a bit questionable, but sealed. It seemed the distance between the ball-flanges on the Y-pipe side were about 1/4 - 1/2" too far apart. Installed the cat-back system with my custom 3" high=flow "converter". I was short a clamp for the catalyst adapter to the Y-pipe, and one for the adapter to the "cat", and short one for the Y-pipe, although I think welding is the preferred method on the Y. Got everything lined up, and tightened up (Had to get clamps from GM, Carquest didn't have anything to fit the 3" slip-fit....Odd......
Fired the car up, and man is it loud! I love it! It is a bit louder than I anticipated, but I'm definately keeping it!!!!
I heat cycled the engine a few times, after cooling off the last time, I rechecked the bolts, all were tight.
I'm glad I went with this setup, but I am still very disappointed in the customer service I got........
Now I need to go fix my sig......

I purchased a set of their tri-y headers way back in '89 or so. There was a note in the box that said they were out of a special spark plug socket, but they will send me one as soon as they get more.
I'm still waiting for that socket.
I'm still waiting for that socket.

member hear was telling my about the "alignment issues"
with the SLP Y pipe. How bad is it? Does it just seem look
"too short" to connect to the headers? Also, notice any
performance increases? More top end, bottom end, both?
On another note, I got my motor the other day! All I can say
is...SWEET!!!!
Everything looks good and not damaged. Jeg's is great in
my book! I bought the GMPP Ramjet 350 crate motor. Now
all I have to do is lug it down my friend's garage, along with
the trans., parts and car. Then I can actually start to work
on it! :lala:
The third week is approaching, so Steve better e mail
with good news soon! :hail:

The alignment issue wasn't terribly bad, it did seal, but I expected it to be better, especially after seeing the quality of the headers otherwise. I didn't "look" like the one side was mating up in the ball-socket very well, but as I said, it did seal just fine.Originally posted by Camaro_nut

Performance increases????
Need I say more??? Actually, I will elaborate a bit. I had a dead cylinder before I tore it down about 3 months ago, and now that's fixed (I had done way more than I needed to because I didn't test things thoroughly enough.. Long story!) so that in itself made a difference. But, from remembering before the dead cylinder, it has quite a bit more mid-range torque (like 2500-3500), and it winds up to 5500 much easier, and quicker than before. Right now, I'm not letting it go much over 5000 rpm's due to losing too many belts (V-belt setup.....) and the transmission is kinda weak (stock 84 trans with 219,000 miles!!!) I also noticed that before, it wouldn't pull much more at 100 MPH, but now, it still feels strong at 115, with it revving at about 5000 RPM's. That's just before the Performer intake starts to drop off (I think they reccomend it for up to 5500) so I don't think it would do much over 120-125 in third gear (D). Now if I had the trans done, it would go into OD at WOT and I could get more speed out of it......All in all, I would do it again, but I would want a realistic idea on the delivery time. It was originally 2 weeks, ended up 2 months.... Would've been fine with 2 months, just I was told 2 weeks in the beginning.....
AAAhhh....A ramjet! I would like to have that intake on my car! I'm going to EFI sometime in the near future, but I need an intake that fits the vortec style heads, and I don't want to run the regular TPI with the SDPC base, due to the RPM limitations of the LTR setup.

Yeah, I LOVE the way this motor is setup! The look of the
"Ramjet" intake is sick! VERY basic square bore style air
intake. Absolutely NO restrictions. This motor was originally
designed for the Marine application, but for some reason,
it's now a performance crate motor, for older cars (whatever).
I don't care about the emissions crap. Even though this is
an OBD system just like the TPI setup. Just that there's
no egr and no AIR system. This is the most complete crate
engine GM has ever made! Minus the other two Ramjet motors
(but they are BBCs). It comes with the ECM aleady attached
in place, wire harness labeled to what each connector goes
to, spark plugs, wires, wire loom kit, 02 sensor, 02 sensor
bung, code reader for ECM, Instructions, service manual, and
distributor is already there too! This may be a premium
to pay for such a modest 350hp GM crate motor, but for
a novice mechanic like me with some dough to spend, it's
perfect. But, it's been proven to hit 13 seconds flat in a
1991 RS with a Corvette 6 speed and street tires. It's
very possible that I could do the same. Not bad for a 3600
pound car with street tires.
I read that you can buy the complete Ramjet intake/fuel setup
separately, but they don't have the wiring harness for it.
????? Wonder why?

I have looked into getting the Ramjet intake and fuel rails, But IIRC they wer pretty expensive. I'll look into it again though, as I would LOVE to get the EFI on my car soon! This carb setup is the epitome of the 70's and early to mid 80's car..... Run-on after the key's off, never quite right, gas-hog......etc......

Yeah, I think we should stop talking off topic now, before this
thread gets locked! I think we should start PM-ing anything
off topic. It's up to you, since you started this thread. But
I think it's a good idea to quite now.
So, If I get any updates on my SLP headers and stuff,
I will post it here.
Oh, next best EFI system I hear about is the Holley stealth
ram system. It's expensive too, but it's more beefier than
the Ramjet system. However, the Holley setup comes with
vague instructions (unless they updated them) and you have
to "tune" the system after installing it, since it doesn't know
what heads, cam, displacement you have in it. But then
again, you may have to do that for the Ramjet system as well.

Just for some FYI.....
The Ramjet intake "Kit" which has fuel rails, throttle body, distributor, wires, etc....is $1235 from gmpartsdirect.com and the intake istself is like $309, and the harness IS available for $202.
I may have to save my pennies to get me the kit! Part no's are avail from gmgoodwrench.com in the performance parts section.

Any updayes on your headers? Did Spohn get tehm like he was told he would? Just curious.
On the Ram-Jet stuff, I'm pretty well decided on the intake kit, Part no. 12498032 and a TPI hraness. I should have the harness tomorrow, and the Ram-Jet kit as soon as I can save up $1235 plus shipping to get it from gmpartsdirect.com
I priced the kit from my local dealer, and our shop's cost was somewhere around $1400. I think I'll go with that website!

NO! Steve said that he ordered the headers on 5/26/04.Originally posted by JP84Z430HP

They told him that it should take 4-6 weeks to deliver.
It is now the 6th week and I am hoping to hear from
SLP (the UPS notification e mail) soon! Steve said that
SLP is not that communcative! NO kidding! Gee, I wonder
where I heard that before????
:lala:
I WILL be e mailing Steve every day until I see the headers at
my doorstep! I am just waiting out this week as a "grace
period". This is why I used Steve Spohn to buy them from. This
way, HE will have to deal with it. Either way, I will never deal
with SLP again. All I am waiting for now is just the headers. I
have like everything else.
I am now in the middle of tearing down the car to start
the swap over. Hopefully, I will see these headers somewhere
between now and August! That's my "deadline" to finish the
project. The instructions from GM highly recommend to use ONLY
1 3/4" headers too. Some members here were saying that the
1 3/4" headers were going to be "overkill" for a modest 350hp
motor. Well, that's not true. GM tested the Ramjet 350 with
using only 1 3/4" headers, as stated specifically in the manual.
Those people can bite me! I just HATE false information!

I fell for ya man. I know exactly how it is! They are nice headers though!
I, personally, wouldn't run anything smaller than 1 3/4 inch headers on a 350 that is very much more than a stocker. I'll prolly run 1 5/8 on my S-10 V-8 swap, I think the vortec will be fine likr that, even if I were to put a stock LT1 cam in it.

I installed SLP 1 3/4" headers on my stock 350 TPI and my torque went thru the floor. I am now in the process of swapping with Paul Riccoli for his 1 5/8" set.
If I had it to do all over again, I'd go with the headers that Jet Hot have on hand, Hookers I believe, that are about $450-500 and already coated.

I wish I would've had the $$$ to go for the coating on mine..... I don't really have a problem with underhood temps, but I know it has to help!
As for the torque loss, what's your engine combo? If it is stock, or near stock, the 1-5/8 probably would be better....

Stock with a AFPR, air foil, and a cat back. Yep, I'm going to the 1 5/8" for my current setup. I'm looking into a ProCharger and that may make me change back but I have no idea.

I got my headers......today!!!!!
:lala: :hail:  They look awesome! Great job, SLP! Luckily I was in no
rush to get them this whole time. The coating looks good.
I just hope that they hold up well. Discoloration is normal.
But I hope that they don't turn brown! They even have an
02 sensor bung right in the header! Good news for me, cause
I would have to use a 7/8" hole saw to drill into the Y pipe
for the 02 sensor, plus weld the bung onto it, then retap
it just in case it got warped from welding. That save me
some work! I was not expecting the 02 sensor hole to be
there. Anyways, I am now relieved! We can both move
on now! LOL

does anybody else have problems with there slp 1 3/4 headers hitting there frame! because where the header flange and the y pipe flange on the passanger side hits the frame and when i turn my frame flexes even more and it really rubs and makes an anoying noise? and what can i do to prevent this?
Mine's hitting the floorboard/frame also, but pretty much just when in reverse. I haven't messed with it yet, but I plan to tomorrow when I put it on the lift to get rid of the annoying brake wear indicator noise.... I'll post a reply if I find something that helps. I also need to get rid of the original hanger at the back of the trans. I have nothing to bolt it to anymore (! cat) and it is rattling no the pipe....
Has anyone else had trouble with clearence to the steering shaft? I had to put a slight "dimple" in one of the tubes, after finding out that the steering column wouldn't move enough to make it right. It still rubs a wee little bit, but I don't want to dent the header anymore.

i have the steering shaft, collector flange and floorboard issue. i use rubber motor mounts, the poly raised it enough to worsen the shaft and floor problem. i flat spotted my header where it hit the shaft, it still touches on occasion. the collector can be rotated to hit the starter away from the chassis, its tight but it works. i put a piece of 2x4 between the collector and the floor then tightened the flanges. it rubbed for a while and then seemed to relax and doesn't hit any more
Hmm... I don't have the chasis to collector flange issue, and I'm glad! Actually, I have a mini-starter on the shelf if I were to need it, but so far, so good!
I was discuccing the shaft issue with a friend, he was thinking that since the mounts are rubber, and have some age on them, that new ones would help with the clearence there. Glad to see that I was right, but not glad to see that it made things worse for you.
I'll be reporting back on the floorboard issue, hopefully tomoroow I'll get the time to put brakes on it, and look into the clearence issue.
