Barry grant sinking?
I've noticed as of late that summit racing and a few other vendors have dropped Demon carbs from their line ups. Is Barry Grant in trouble? I have a Speed Demon and I'm concerned about getting parts now. Has anyone heard anything??
I haven't heard of any problems, but I haven't researched it any. - Just because it's not in the cataloge doesn't mean they've dropped it. They have or atleast have access to about 5 times the stuff they actually print in the cataloge. Basically, if it is a manufacturer that they carry, they have it or can get it.

I think it has more to do with Holley and Edelbrock dominating the market then a problem with Barry Grant. Large suppliers can use their stroke to change what a vendor offers.

Summit doesn't carry Barry Grant anymore. My understanding is they had too many returns with his stuff. Also he got caught using Holley Dominators on his own Demon race car. It doesn't look good when you don't use your own products. I'll see if I can find the article.

Wow! that says a lot then. I'd love to see that article. I'm curious cause I need a new carb for my 454 and a Demon in about $50 cheaper than a Holley for the carb I need. Trust me I love the Speed demon on my 383, I have no complaints. On the flip side I don't want to run the risk of not being able to get parts or whatever if something goes wrong.

From what I hear, is that Demon carbs were pulled out of summit and the like for selling them too far below the msrp. CNC-motorsports still carries them.

Wow, if he actually did get cought using someone elses carbs on his race car he may as well give up and close the doors now.
That says alot about the quality/performance of his products if he wont even use his own carbs!

exactly.
but since so many people in this world are too stupid to tell the diff... and since our sport is currently trendy, theres alot of that crap out there.
by the way.... if the race REQUIRES a specific holley part number, and someone races in it, and runs that holley part, they havent been "caught" using a holley..
I am not extremely knowledgeable in the world of carbs. But, I always thought that Barry Grant was the 'cream of the crop'. My understanding went like this.
Edelbrock - Extremely reliable; but doesn't produce the most power
Holley - Produces a lot of power; but a PITA to tune and keep running from day to day
Barry Grant - Based on Holley designs to produce a lot of power; but has refined the Holley design for more reliability

I thought I would post the MEMO that was sent out by Holley. I got a little laugh that the winner of the Barry Grant sponsored race was running Dominators. I said I made a mistake and that it wasn't about him.
It is my understanding though, that he was running Dominators on his own car and got caught. Not that he was DQ'd for it, just that people saw he wasn't running his own stuff.

Dude, if you're going to make a statement like that, you're going to have to provide a little proof before people take it at face value.
It's a little far-fetched to think that a man who owns a massive, multi-million dollar facility that manufactures carbs; who spends millions every year advertising those carbs; and whose race program is a rolling test bed and advertising platform for those carbs would risk his entire professional reputation and the livelihood of his business to try and win a couple of hundred thousand dollars (at best) running his direct competitors carbs at an event where there will be multiple technical inspections and journalists from every magazine he advertises in with cameras around their neck just LOOKING for a story.
Maybe it's true, but I, for one, will need a little more than your say so before I believe it.
By the way, my next door neighbor says his brother-in-laws' second-cousin knows a guy who works with the great aunt of a guy who lives two blocks over from the nephew of the guy who served in Viet Nam with the guy whose father's fraternity brother's daughter's ex-boyfriend's grandfather's best friend designed that 100mpg carb the oil companies and the CIA and the Department of Education stole back in the 60's.
See? This whole "gas crisis" is nothing but a government plot!
I will not buy another product from that company. I have been using their 280 pump for years with no problem, but I have since had two issues when trying to be a repeat customer. Both times I received zero support from their tech line. I am greatful that the mail order company I purchased through stood behind me. I finally exchanged the product for another brand. The next time you are at the track, ask some other car owners what their experience with BG has been, most racers I know, won't go near 'em.

more like, worst to best
edelbrock/carter = very cheap in price, easy to install and get a very mild to stock eng to run fine due to it's simple desighn.
quadrajet = mostly a factory carb good on gas (spread bore) and performs pretty darn well when setup correctly which can get tricky.
Holley ect. = good performance carb kinda hard to tune has it's problems from time to time but, well known and time tested desighns
BG = about the same as holley better looking but can be a little harder to fine tune but, seems to squeek out a few more hp then it's holley counterpart when that final tune is made.
