Puritan Pontiac NewGMParts.com Wierd
I had an unpleasant experience with these guys. So I complained
Here is the email exchange....
This is from me...
> Order 15103567
> I placed this order Tuesday evening. I asked for 2nd Day delivery. My expectation was to have the parts by Friday.
> I received an email indicating that this is a "special order" and that you wouldn't be shipping until Thursday.
> Whether these parts arrive in anytime to be useful remains to be seen.
> When accepting an order please indicate whether the parts are in stock. Anybody can "get them" Hell I can make them if I have to.
> When I called the phone guy acted like I was wasting his time in making a query about my order.
> I indicated that the web site should indicate when parts are in stock the guy told me that they sent me an email saying
> special order means not in stock. When I asked who he worked for, he told me "GMParts.com"
> Hmmm... no kidding. So I asked him who his boss was and he responded "Do you want the tracking number ?"
> He has convinced me that I am wasting his time. I will share my experience with as many gearheads as I can.
> With luck fewer people will trouble your phone guy. I can't believe you let this guy speak with customers.
So I get a response
>As is indicated in our Terms of use, if you read it:
Ahhh.. I knew it, clearly I'm the idiot
>Catalog: The online parts catalog is to be used as a reference guide and does not reflect the availability or stocking status of parts.
Now I get it ! You're willing to take the order off the street and count
on the fact that I won't be pissed enough to cancel
> Although the majority of the data in the catalog is correct, there can be discrepancies in part numbers and prices,
> (Due to monthly manufacturer updates). In such cases, you will be notified via e-mail or by phone before any charges will occur.
> Sometimes we have to order items from GM, as we cannot stock everything in our warehouse.
> Such as was your order. It is unfortunate that we had to order them, when you indicated 2nd day delivery,
> but we did our best to get them to you in a timely matter.
So far, no parts
> When you asked who the boss was, you were told his name, and stated he was not available, and on vacation this week.
Yes indeed when I asked again he did in fact tell me he worked for "Mike"
and that "Mike" is on vacation
Clearly the desk weasel I am complaining about is also the puke responsible
for responding to email complaints
>Newgmparts.com*********We make it easy!
Well after that I am unsure what to make of the parts biz anymore.
I was expecting a polite explanation maybe seasoned with a little
empathy.
Anyway I thought I would let you know about these guys

No different than classic industries, they will take your money for a second gen dash, which has been in their cataloge for YEARS , and has never been made!! It is nice to have someone put their paws on the part, so I always call, and ask at time of order if its in stock. When I call classic, they will tell you (usually) if items are in stock, while your ordering. I will never order from a website if time is an issue, almost NOBODY has their email set up to forward to their blackbberry, so they can get that order punched in. The other scenario is like Hawks does, just good people , getting it done and fast..

Yes, weird is a good way to describe Puritan. I posted about a similar experience with them a couple of years ago. Place an order, and it's one delay tactic after another, eventually leading you to cancel the order. Obviously, they can't get most of the parts listed, but they don't want to admit it.
But if you checkout other GM dealers who have websites with online parts catalogs, they all use the same catalog. And the catalogs contain just about everything, whether it's still available or not(most are not). But if those dealers can get the parts, then so can your local dealers. And the prices you'll get will likely be the same 'wholesale' price that you'll see online. And you prolly won't have to pay shipping costs either if your own dealer orders it in for you to pick-up.
So yeah, forget about Puritan. They're messed up, IMO. For NOS still available, support your local dealer or this site's sponsors.
