Stock Distributor With HSR Intake
I was gonna put my motor in today, but right before i was gonna drop it in, i put the distributor in, or atleast tried...and it wouldn't go in...the distribitor housing was interferring with the back upright of the the HSR manifold...there isn't enough clearance...is this a common problem? why won't the stock one go in? Do I need a new one, and if so what can i use? the engine is a 89 vette engine..

The HSR requires a small cap distributor - with a separate coil. I bought a MSD 8366 to replace the HEI that was acting up in my car.
I'm not sure what distributor you have, but if the coil is in the cap, then that is your problem.

And if the magnets aren't quite there you can always rebuild them cheaply enough.
A Junkyard should have what you need too, you can buy an aftermarket coil while you are at it.
Make sure you grab the associated wireing while you are at it.

Just for completeness the GM part number: 1103952 or 1104060. Does anyone know which is the correct number.

Engine: blown up
Transmission: in peices
I decided to go with a 60's points type that I quickly converted to the mangetic/electronic with the petronics kit. I know I will get a EST code but the advance will be handled via vacuum port.

Also on the remote coil units, the cap can extend away from the housing enough to hit the back wall. This was limiting the amount the dizzy could rotate back there. I had to grind off a small amount of plastic (1/8" -1/4") near the cap retaining screw where it was molded out too far.
(Summit, red cap)
Still have to set the base to know if I really needed to do that.
But at least now it can turn freely.

i bought a Holley Small cap billet dist. before they stop building electronics. But you can get a stock Dist. and a aftermarket ingintion system. i use a Crane HI6 with the L92 coil. them were sold together. you can get all three from around 300. i think. just a thought.
After looking and researching a bit more...
I think that I'm going to buy the summit stock replacement distributor SUM-850008 for the 88-92ish V8 used in the Camaro, and use the same Blaster 2 coil, along with the holley adaptor for that plug. I believe that this should work, chime in if not!
