What cam for 395 stroker & HSR?
I followed vernw's post with great interest, obviously because I am considering swapping to the HSR. vernw settled on a 236*/242*/113*LSA.
My desirable is to keep the peak Hp NOT above 6200 RPM. Would this same cam be good for me? I kind-of like vern's initial selection of 230*/236*/113* LSA.
A few points that others may not realize:
1) I stick the 700R4 tranny in 'D', power brake to 2000 RPM, and floor it.
2) I am working with the weights & springs in the govenor to get the tranny to shift at 5800 to 6000 RPM with the current cam.
3) I have made a home made large MAF of 3.5" OD, which I am still tuning on.
4) I feel like I have not gotten every tenth of a second out of my SR.

The TPI shootout on a 383 with that cam (the off the shelf 236/242 XE grind on 112lsa) made 501hp with a HSR at 6000rpms even. you should be around that with a 395. it made 497hp at 5600 and peaked at 501 at 6000 and held 495 at 6200. so you could even shift it at 5800 if you dont wanna go up over 6000 at all

One thing to consider - a single pattern cam. It helps lower the peak power point. I may have made a mistake by not going that route myself....
