(The math works out to be ether 357 or 358. 358 just seems cooler to me and no one is going to bitch about a inch.

i dont know, most cammed cars will do better than me, atleast trap higher. my car just uses suspension really well. 1.74 60 foot is better than my torquey TPI was. AWESOME

i got full bolt on Spohn stuff... adjustable TA, LCA's with bracket, adj panhard bar from Hotchkis, and eibach prokit springs with adjustable tokico shocks. Not the BEST drag springs and shocks but they WORK!

Update:
Got some issues fixed but still running the shitty headers/y-pipe
357ci
9.3-9.8:1 compression
Holley Stealth Ram /w 38psi regulatar = 22lb injectors
170cc Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads
Comp Cams XE274 FLAT tappet 230/236 110lsa
Air fuel ratio is WB tuned 12.8 across the board.
Mustang dyno..
320rwhp@5800rpm 355rwtq@3800rpm
After 5000rpm the HP curve is pretty flat... 315~hp at 5000rpm to 5400rpm then bumps up to 320 around 5800 and falls on its face fast at 6000rpm. I think maybe my exhaust is really restricting it? I'm running Edelbrock headers which look like the old style with 1.5" and 1.625" mixed primaries. The Y-pipe is also 2.25" and is press bent.

yeah that aint too bad at all on a mustang dyno which typically will read less than a dynojet.
i'd say shoot for atleast a 2.5-3 inch ypipe and atleast 3-3.5 inch catback. you proby could pick up 20 hp

Re: Post your HSR combos and dyno #'s / e.t.'s here please!
my bone stock 92 formula with 178,000 on the clock went 13.9 at 102 here in fl. If my hsr combo went only 101 I would give up on trying to go fast. I have a 383 in the car now stock ported l98 al heads, stock ported intake with slp runners, small comp cam 224 230 558 568 lift 1 3/4 long tubes 58mmtb 700r4 3600 vigalante triple disk 342 gear which went 12.2 116 on radials (not drag radials) on a 1.90 60 ft. (has gone 1.58 with stickys) It made 360 hp @5800 and 520 torque @3200. I am in the process of changing to the hsr now and will be selling my magical tpi intake set up as I have yet to see a car go this fast with a stock style set up. This is with no power adder by the way just in case someone tries to say it must have one. Have seen gains up to 5 mph in the quarter with the swap and 50 hp at the wheels.I am sure not that much in my case as I have made this stock turd make power with the mods I have done to it. I saw a good article with a 355 that made 301 with a stock set up and picked up to 358 with the hsr. Car went from 108 to 113 in the quarter. It had afr 190 heads and a zz9 cam. 226 226 and 525 lift. If I could remember where I saw the page I would list it. Guy had a great bunch of dyno comparisons of intakes and engines all in a 91 z28 mini ram vrs stock vrs hsr. Hsr was best out of 3. Also had a mini ramed 400 inch small block that made 420 @ the wheels 11.3 @ 119. It was a link on one of the diy tuning pages. Good luck.

And about that 101 comment, was that directed to me? If it was, why would i give up goin fast?? I'm sorry my car only went 97mph with TPI and i picked up 4mph with HSR....

Don't let the mph bother you.
I used to run 12.80's at 102.xx in my highly modded 125,000 mile 350 TPI.
I remember going to a Vette car show/ dyno day and all the LS1 Vettes were putting down great numbers stock. Like 320 to my 253 rwhp. I got snubber badly. At the track was a different story though. I could wipe em off the line and they would never catch me. I was accused of running nitrous several times. Not much would beat me to the 1/8mi but after that ...another story.
Then I put on the stealth ram and it actually ran a slower et with a higher mph (13.28 @ 105). That was without tuning though.
Don't give up. Press on.

Re: Post your HSR combos and dyno #'s / e.t.'s here please!
I had really only paid attention to irocs at the track with tpi stuff when I had my 94 lt1 and most of them with bolt ons were around 98 mph. I do alot of street racing and most of that is done from a roll so mph is the winner on the street not e.t. I have a 392 ci lt1 now in the 94 that last time out had run 11.0 at 127 and I had to lift to make the 1 to2 shift because the 4l60e was giving up bad. It would sit on the rev limiter until I lifted then would make a slow sloppy shift. Any way I bought the 92 formula from the original owner with all paper work and history documented through out its life for 2200 bucks because the lt1 was down and I needed transportation. Being a racer I decided to take it to the track since the other was broke and all my friends were going. I took it in october to gainesville raceway and that was when it ran the 13.9 at 102. I turned up the timing a touch pulled the air filter and iced the intake because it had gone 14.1 3 other times and figured I could squeek it into the 13s with doing that. My 94 only went 13.9 at 97 I think when it was stock on drag radials. The only thing that had been done according to its history was a engine change by the dealer at 32,000 miles for a rod knock. When I melted the factory motor on a 225 shot I noticed it had brass freeze plugs and 4 bolt main caps. I dont know what they put in it I assume due to the caps a vette or truck block and would have assumed the same cam but dont know. I will try to dig up the time slip which means much of nothing with out seeing the car do it but I was just as suprized to see it go that fast esp the mph it made. It is a t-top no option car. No power, has a factory aluminum drive shaft dual cats (well had ) cloth seats. It weighs 3200 depending on fuel with out me in it. My 94 was 3450 with out me in it. I read dual cat firebirds were the highest rated at 255 hp due to airfilter setup and exhaust and dual cats. So a lighter car and only 20 less hp. I think the weight would make up the difference plus the l98 makes more torque than a lt1. I took my 2002 trailblazer 2 wheel drive and beat a 88 iroc 5.7 at the track on a 15.4 at 94 mph with my wife in the truck. The Iroc only went 15.6 at 92. So I see with a similar car running that number where 100+ out of another l98 seems not possible but I have no reason to lie. I put the intake on the car now up for sale since I am going to the hsr. If you run a stock style set up you have to siameese it to get power out of it. I have a article somewhere in a high tech where they took a stock 91 firebird and put a hsr on it and picked up around 50 at the wheels and it ran 104 in the quarter. That was with tuning it for the intake. I didnt mean to rag on the car I guess I was alittle harsh it should go quite a bit faster for the set up for sure unless you are way above sea level. Strange thinks can happen to make a car not run as it should but run right. When I first put at afr 190s and a cam in my lt1 it was only running 13.0 at 108 and I was crushed after spending all that money and only
picking up 2 mph over what it ran with all the bolt ons I had done. I had put forged pistons in it at the same time and the valve reliefs were not the same as stock and I was running a 600 inch lift cam and it bent every exhaust valve just a touch where they wouldnt seal up. Figured it out after 6 months of pulling out my hair and telling hypertech they couldnt tune a stock car and get it to go fast. (they did 6 different programs for it). I put in new valves and fly cut the pistons and put it back together and the car jumped right to constant high 11s at 114 to 116 depending on temp out side. I just expect alot from the intake swap from what I have been seeing and really that was the first car I have seen to run that slow with the setup on it. If it is a sd car the tune is killing it. Maybe I can help for my rudeness. Let me see you bin and I can recomend what I feel you need for it if you are intrested. Has to be lacking fuel or have a mechanical problem.

Your 92 formula doesnt sound stock to me if it had a different block. compression could have been different and so could the cam. I'm only about 1200 ft above sealevel. the DA on my 101mph run was 1800. when its hot out and 3300 ft DA, i went 99. Most L98's i have seen at my track (and i only seen a few) run mid high 14's at 94-95 in mostly stock form on street tires and stock trans. I rarely see thirdgens out here and the only ones i have seen were L98s so thats good. Another buddies 89 formula 350 with full bolt ons went 13.6's at 100 on street tires/stock stall in the summer.
It just seems like your car is not stock. Any way, you'll like the HSR. it will make abig difference

My 92 Formula bone stock internals with a hsr edelbrock shorties, underdrive crank pulley,160 stat, 2800 stall 3.23 gears and a 150 shot put down 384/420 havent taken the car to the track yet but it did go 12.3@109 when it put down 355/463 with the tpi on it. With the hsr the car pulled 5500 and was still making 350 hp.

Well, I am very bummed at my dyno run today, same cam for both dyno runs, stil lusing SVO-24# injectors, A/F ratio was 13.2
I know the 233/233 was weak for the Miniram so I am pretty certain that it is weak for the HSR as well,
NA Miniram = 385RWHP & 405 RWTQ
NA HSR = 385RWHP & 410 RWTQ

i didnt think you'd make more hp with HSR over the miniram but i wouldnt have been surprised if you made more torque since the runners are abit longer with HSR

hey larry,
its not that bad!
after looking over both dyno sheets, I'd say you've gained 10 to 20TQ and HP over the miniram in the 4000 to 5200rpm range.
plus it didn't lose anywhere to the miniram.
I'd call that a gain!
RJ (yes I was there at the dyno pull)

Crazy hot,, slippery track and bad luck,, I broke my accelerator pivot bracket on he first and only run........ too much adrenaline
2.2 sec... 60'
12.8 @ 114.9 mph
Need cooler air and better luck,, and a bigger cam
I'll hit the track one or twice again on a Wednesday night at Muncie Dragway

Wow! I can see by the 60' that traction was ugly! You gotta get that down to 1.6 /1.7ish. Yeah I'm thinking my cam is too small as well. It's the CC XR276HR- 224*/230*. lift is around .510. It peaks on the dyno @5500rpm.

that cam is perfect for my budget goals lol ie cam only 155K miles L98 with HSR
For a built motor tho and miniram/hsr on a 355, i'd like a custom grind like Advanced induction 226/234. Local guy was doing low 12s at 116 on a AFR headed LT1 with this cam. Else i'd go with something like a 227/233 from combination motorsports or even the XFI 230/236. they all should make power by 6000rpms or so

Side note-forgot that witha bigger engine my power band wil go down with the same cam....i was shifting at 6000 when i went to the track last week. Wonder if that had something to do with my disappointing numbers (along with my need for a bigger converter and gears)?

did you finally get that dyno tune done man? why do you think it is too small? You are getting low 12's on a dyno tune that is not yet complete. plus you have some happy gas that you spray. I'd kill to hav your ET.

Any reason you think my cam wouldnt make power to 6000 on a 355? or is it just you really like the 230/236 cam?

I am not complaining about the e.t. although I was shooting for 11.50's N/A when I built it. Based on the dyno results my motor peaks at 5500RPM. I would like to see it up around 6000. Thats why I think I need a bigger cam. I guess a gear change would help get closer to 11.50's! The 3.07's really are a mismatch.
I am far from done with tweaking it.

I thouyght about changing my cm when I went from a 355 to a 383 but for a couple hundred more $, I can throw that NX kit that you have on my car and it will be ALOT more beneficial then just a cam swap. Another member said it on here, "you wont find a magical 30 more hp from one off the shelf cam to anther. That is unless you have some seriosuly mis matched components."
There are two or three other members on here running 12.2x-12.0x with our engine combo's in a f body. So with that in mind, I think with a good tune you can get your target ET. Good luck man!
