I already searched but... I heard that the stealth ram wont work with vortec heads, will it?

 

stealth ram is available for vortec heads. if you have a regular stealth ram it wont work with vortec heads. You need to order the vortec base

 

get the vortec HSR.... its designed for vortec style intakes. i believe it is also more expensive too like 50$ or more i believe

 

I just finished a vortec-headed 383 with the holley stealth ram myself. You'll also need the specific fuel rails for the vortec-style stealth ram also.

 

wow revitupz28 thats nice looking, im goin wit a 383 HSR with aluminum patriot 195cc heads and a xfi280 bumpstick. im hopin for 500hp, wats ur setup? the polished looks great.... but it was too expensive i can see the holley TB and i wasnt sure if i liked the valve covers but on urs they look good, i went wit tall fabricated centerbolt will billet rails.

the motor looks better on the stand lol u can barely see it in the car

 

I just went with the vortec heads and LT4 hotcam I already owned. I plan on getting either Etec-200 heads or the new world products vortec heads they just came out with, with a cam to match, but it will be this time next year before I can afford it. I really wanted to get some dyno numbers and track times on this setup, just to see what it puts down.

I went with the beehive springs, hardened pushrods, guideplates, 1.6 roller tip rockers, all from comp cams, and then just re-used my scorpion hyd roller lifters. I used the poly motor mounts as well, but the only problem I have with hood clearance has nothing to do with the intake--just that my summit direct fit radiator sticks up higher, which causes the TPI snorkel to stick up higher (which kept the hood from closing all the way). I shimmed the hood for a temporary fix till I make a custom CAI.

I agree with you totally on how it looks better on the stand. Once you hook all the stuff up, it doesn't look as cool. (Especially not as tall)

 

yea i was thinking at first it was an LT1/miniram/ramjet real quick. i had the hot cam but i sent that lil thing back for my xfi280. u threw alot of money at those vortec heads with the compcams stuff and beehive springs it should def hold up. did u install screw in studs? yea def get some numbers down i would think u be pulling 400hp and 450 in tq at the motor.

next thing u should so is look for sum wire looms lol and straighten up that mess will look a 100 times better.

i hope it looks tall when i stil mine in. i dont have the serpinetine belt system since mines and 87 and i only have alt,waterpump,and powersteering. i cant even tell why i looks short, is it just the accessories? also do the energy suspension motor mounts raise or lower the motor... they raise it right? i wont have a prob i got the ram air 2 hood with 2.5" of extra clearance

 

Yeah, the heads had a complete valve job and were machined for screw-in rocker studs. Installed the ARP rocker studs, and used ARP perma-lock fasteners on the rockers also.

The accessories do help hide it, especially when you install your wiring harness and wire loom. My valve covers are the tall kind also, so that might make it appear lower.

The poly motor mounts raise it slightly compared to the stock motor mounts. Most guys have it hit the hood since the throttle body isn't angled down like the stock TPI's. My clearance problem is just at the very front part of the hood, where the snorkel is at. (Much bigger radiator)

ohhh ok. wait why is the kirban unit on the front like that? isnt it suppose to be on the rear? i just got the kirban unit for xmass.... i wouldnt stick that stamped adjustable holley cr@p on my car. the kirban unit issss sooo frigin nice

also how many breathers/PCV valves u got on your valvecovers. i gotta cut wholes in my fabricated ones and i just wanna make sure im doing the bare minimum. i really dont wanna use PCV valves... i was planning on goin wit 2 breathers one on each valve cover... but if i can get away wit one i would do that.

 

oh yeah you could deff get away with one on both sides. they get clogged up with oil tho, all pvc valve does is get your intake all oily

holley sells the vortec intake. and they have a vortec style fuel rail kit.... versus the regular chevy 12pt holley stealth ram and its matching fuel rail kit.

i believe the kits are simular but the front cross over fuel tube is a different bend etc. i have the regular HSR setup and fuel rail kit but i went to assemble it and the front cross over pipe does not fit my regualr chevy HSR intake. i called summit and they talked to holley, they think they packaged the fuel rail kit wrong and they will be sending me what they think is the right cross over hose.... lol well see.

make sure u get the right kit, they only fit what they are made for.

 

I found something interesting when trying to find the part # on Summit's website. I have Weiand Vortec Stealthram Part #7542, which recommends fuel rail kit Holley part #'s 534-192 (Non-Adjustable FPR) and part # 534-193 (Adjustable FPR).

But I also found another Weiand Vortec Stealthram, Part #7540 on Summit's website also. This stealthram has different part #'s for its fuel rails also:
Holley Part#534-185 and 534-186 (Adjustable and non-adjustable). This manifold is also stated to be used with Vortec heads.

I ordered my Stealthram about a year ago, so I'm not sure what the difference in the part #'s are about. Maybe one was an original part # that isn't used anymore and they came out with another after they fixed some casting flaws?

I'd call Summit and see what is up, or possibly even Holley. I'm curious myself.

 

I just got off the phone with Holley tech, and the guy I spoke with said that the Weiand part #7542 was indeed the Stealthram needed to work with Vortec heads. Evidently this page on their site was wrong. It lists both part #'s as being Vortec-specific.

Part#7540 is the manifold that fits only regular 23 degree standard-style heads. (Even though Holley's website lists it as a Vortec-design)

Part#7542 is the Vortec manifold.
So for the person asking what fuel rail kit is needed for the Vortec stealthram, it would be between part #534-193 (adjustable fpr) or part #534-192 (non-adjustable fpr)

On a sidenote, for what its worth, I have heard that some people have had problems with the Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulators that come with the fuel rail kits in the past. (They may have changed the design of the regulators since I purchased mine for all I know, but do some research.) Because of this, I went with the Kirban unit (Part#6547), like many others, before ever installing my stealthram.

so does anyone know what the front cross over pipe looks liek on the vortec? mine looks like this...

i also heard that the holley AFPR have a 75% fail rate that come in the kits... when i recieved mine it was a stamped peice of steel that looked horrible and i also went with the KIRBAN unit. its an amazing piece and its all CNC machined... well worth the 100$ and performance and reliability.

 

Hey man, just went out there and took these. This was the best I could do in a dark garage. This front crossover is on my Vortec HSR.

 

thanks revitupz28... yea thats the front crossover that i need.... its not the one i got in my kit. they said it musta been a packaging problem cuz i sent it back to summit and they said they recieved it but said it was the front crossover pipe for the commander 950... there are 2 and they both look like the pic i attached... for both of those pipes summit sells the stainless holley fuel lines for 83$ geez.... i have yet to hear from summit about the order
