Fuel Pump Fun

Right now I am buying up the last of the parts I need to piece together my own EFI system. My camaro is originally carbed and right now it has a mechanical pump on it so I am assuming it has the carb tank in there (note: if my assumption is wrong, then I will have nothing to worry about). Does the carburated gas tank have the necessary provisions to run an in-tank fuel pump in the pickup assembly? If not, can I run an inline pump right after the line comes out of the tank? If anybody has pictures that would be great because I am thinking of possibly replacing all my hardlines with 3/8" stainless hardlines.

Re: Fuel Pump Fun

I don't know for sure but I would expect that the standard fuel pick up could be modified to accept a fuel pump. The tricky part would be getting the electrical connections to run the pump in/out of the tank. I'm would also expect that the tanks are the same (carb vs EFI) and you could swap out a pick up assmy out of a EFI car. But your idea about the in-line pump is probably the easiest. As far as stainless lines are concerned, it may be nice but I think it's overkill.

Re: Fuel Pump Fun

Just get a EFI sender out of the junkyard. Some things are just not worth making, if for anything else safety reasons.

Re: Fuel Pump Fun

If you have the option to use an in-tank pump, do it. Fuel starvation issues suck.
