Anyone tried this?

I was wondering if anyone tried this. I've been thinking of something like this ever since I saw IRTBs.

Re: Anyone tried this?

Ok, thanks.
I was wondering if a modified carb manifold would work for the manifold. I could probably get a used manifold for a lot cheaper than $350 that one. My other question is is it possible to modify a carburator to act as a throttle body instead of using the one I posted. I could probably get a used/gutted carb that doesn't work for less than the $500 for the manifold. I'm trying to see if the cheap college student way will work right.

I feel stupid now for not knowing that it is called a "single plane intake manifold". I lookede for a while but didn't find anything, and there was a sticky right on top.

Hopefully the last question, am I able to take out the MAF without too much trouble, or is there way to integrate it with this setup.

A lot of guys have converted carb manifolds. I did one myself a few years ago and it was VERY fast. The problem is the material. I do not have the ability to weld aluminum. If you can weld aluminum (injector bungs, rail mounts) than an intake can be converted for under $200 including fuel rails. I found that Supercharged Grand Prix regulators work great for home made intakes.

As for throttle body - you have a few different options, but I would not try using a carb. You need a reliable TPIS and IAC. I purchased a 'elbow' or 'doghouse' as some may call it to mount an LS1 throttle body to a standard 4150 carb manifold. This cost me some money ($265). The throttle bodies (76mm / 3") can be had for around $50. You can purchase a cast adapter from edelbrock for about $160. I needed a custom elbow/adapter/doghouse for my application. I personally like the monoblade LS1 throttle body, and I think the throttle response is much superior to a twin bore design.

You can also get an aluminum doghouse/elbow to run a TPI throttle body. A lot of the LT1 guys run them.

The real question here is do you NEED this type of intake. I'm running a 500hp supercharged 358 cubic inch small block.. If you have a near stock engine, with near stock cam and heads it probably won't run well with a short runner singleplane intake. A lot of these guys with singleplanes are in the low 11s to mid 10s. This is not for 13 second cars..

Re: Anyone tried this?

I don't need this kind of intake. I am mostly thinking for the future. I'm thinking about doing a seroius engine rebuild/swap, and transmission swap in the summer, and I'm trying to get everything planned out ahead of time. I'm starting on figuring out what I should do to get the "most" for my money, when I do it. Thank you very much for your help.
