Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

Well said Nate!

However, and not to make excuses, but there are plenty of people on this site that are younger than us and may not understand what it takes to actually get a product to market. That and some frustration due to wanting this intake for quite sometime and not being able to obtain one probably has fueled some of the comments that you are in reference to.

Not playing the devil's advocate, but I can sympathize with some of these people because about 8 or 9 years ago when I built the vortec headed small block for my car, I was on the waiting list from Scoggin-Dickey for close to a year for a vortec TPI intake manifold. I was on the first run of this intake and had pre-ordered it before it was even in production. It was torture having the motor and everything else done on the car and not being to crank it up for SEVERAL months!! But in the end it was worth it!

I can see both sides...

Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

Thanks for the kind words. I too see both sides, but biting the had that feeds isn't going to help. I just hope BBK see's us as a group of serious enthusiasts with diverse interests, and uses this board in an effort to increase their marketshare. And, that they improve their customer service. I really do sympathize with them when something like thois gets leaked, especially on the price point. But still, for a mild drag/street application, it seems to be a good design in theory.

Id almost propose that several of us pool money and get one and test it for some real world data. Then sell it and split the money equally, or have the car owner buy out the other folks. It'd be hard to make the numbers work, but Id chip in if it was the quickest way to get some hard data on this thing.

Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

other companys pop out intakes all the time for carbs id say there a bit more outdated then tpi and lt1s now have more intake choices then tpi.

it was bbk that posted on the front page of there own website many years ago bbk tpi intake 399 coming soon .

ive never said there intake was crap just that the cost has gone up alot since
BBKs orginal price .

its also bbks own fault they set out the info to summit to early
i also understand delays but its been delay after delay come on get them into production and selling and sell with carb approval pending message .

as for its proformance , so far from the data they posted it dosnt add much to stock 350 something id expect it to since everyone complains that stock 350s are choked so baddly by tpi to me it says wow tpi really dosnt limit a stock 350 engine by very much.

Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

CFM is CFM. Runner length is what determines where HP peaks at. If a particular stock TPI 350 doesn't need more than 200 cfm, then the stock TPI will do fine for that particular motor and throwing more air at it wont yield huge gains. If a different motor has the longblock to take in more air, then this is where the BBK and other intakes will make a larger improvement over stock TPI and also allow peak HP to be higher in the RPM's due to the shorter runners.....

1bad91Z is right: Bolting this thing onto your otherwise stock 350 will give you only a fraction of it's potential. The stock 350s in our cars are tuned as a package for low end torque. Change one thing and you move incrementally. Do heads and cam to seriously increase compression, flow and combustion chamber efficiency, and put long tubes and a free-flowing exhaust on it, THEN swap out that TPI and you will see a massive difference.

Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

I agree with TA. The BBK intake has potential from the dimensions that have been released to support quite a bit of horsepower. However it will be the details that will tell the tale. If they pull an "Edelbrock" then all is lost for an out of the box system.

Just be grateful someone is willing to put out a new product for our cars. It is getting to be a rare event these days.

So has anyone actually installed this?
Is it worth the trouble?
Any better than a highly modified TPI with large runners and port matching?

Paying attention like you do? I read the whole damn thread BEFORE posting.
It most certainly is for sale at Summit Racing.
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...DS=1&N=700+115

I just asked a simple question. If you have no experience with this manifold then you should not answer my question.

The only reason you posted was to jump in my shinola...

Go bother someone else troll.

hey dumb *** (just returning your rudeness)--notice the ship date? 5/23/09

It's been on Summit for months starting in Feb. The ship date gets pushed back all the time. If you read the all the posts you'd see that.

NO ONE HAS IT YOU CANNOT BUY IT. I emailed BBK awhile ago---still not for sale. They said they would send me an email when available.

Grow up--I was just replying to your post and you start crying.

My attitude?

I asked a simple question and got told to "pay attention"

Could have just posted that it was not available yet but would much rather be offensive and condescending....

I'm done dealing with you juvenile trolls.

screw you both!

I cannot picture one of those things sitting untop of my motor.
Then again, a basic sbc 350 is all I ever really want on the street!

So it'd be a waste of my 700 bucks as said in this thread.
Still nice to see TPI get some limelight, rare as it may be
these days!

Read the fine print!
NOTICE the wording
Estimated Ship Date: 5/26/09
This supply date has been constanly adjusted ever since the intake was listed on Summit's site
NOT actually on the shelf now so NOBODY has actually run one!

Has anyone contacted BBK about this recently? I know someone trying to get an Edelbrock ProFlo XT went through this same thing at summit and it turned out to be a summit thing, edelbrock had been shipping them for months...

Aloha gang,
My first post here.Coming to the TPI world from the LS1 world.I have a little TPI expierience, and know i want to toss the TPI set up.I would try BBK it on my 89 c4.Have 3:07 gears and an auto.... Trying to think of the best cam to match it with.I'm keeping the heads stock, just install the new springs with the cam,and some roller rockers.

I contacted them on the 14th, and was told "soon", but they have re-designed the TPI throttle body to be released with it, plus it all has to be approved by the smog Gestapo for California.

Ha Ha,don't be a hater.....what a lame statement, especially from a moderator."They..they...they"...Go to digitalcorvettes and you'll be hard pressed to find a stock TPI vette. If you're running into some "vette" guy's that like the torque,it's probably because the auto c4s come with 2:59 or 3:07 gears,so if a c4 auto guy isn't going to build a nice package, just changing the intake, torque is an issue. For the record, the LS1 swaps are becoming common for the early c4s.More power, more torque and putting an LS1 in a c4 brings the car to just under 3000 lbs....25 mpg,the LS1 is a federal low emissions motor, the TPI motors are sooooo dated. But,i would never catagorize any group of car owners, there are idiots and radical rides from all model cars..

Enjoy you're rides everyone...

Personally I think the BBK intake manifold has potential. We will just have to wait for the final product to show up and take some measurements.

I actually agree and while that comment was a bit cheeky, I'm serious about the fact that a at least externally similar intake, yielded a rev band up to 7500rpm. That is some serious HP/RPM potential.

Is there any new info out about the BBK, what is keeping it so long? The damn thing is already being advertised in Chevy mags...

Apparently they have a real world working version of it. No price though.

http://www.bbkperformance.com/produc...-manifold.html

here is a dyno sheet from bbk's website.

http://www.bbkperformance.com/produc...no_pdf-238.pdf

Kinda scary that the hp starts to tank at 4500, hopefully it's b/c of the stock nature of the motor (cam)

Well you will have to pardon me, the last time I owned a 3rd gen was in 2004 and it was a carbed one. Just got back into the SBC game about a month ago. Even though my LS1 Trans am is fun, I love the 3rd gen body style.

I called BBK today on this intake and they stated that the intake is over 6 months from production. They are waiting on castings and it's going to be 6 months or longer. So much for a 2009 release date. They said sorry about the website error.

Re: bbk tpi intake for sale @ summit

New to the Third Gen world and interested in the BBK intake since it keeps the stock emissions equipment and offers increased breathing. In case anyone is interested, and no one may be by now, I've corresponded with BBK's Tech staff and have heard back from them with very brief replies to my questions:
1. Interested in more information on the new L98 Tuned Port intake manifold. Does this unit use the stock fuel rails and other parts? How does the height compare to the stock TPI? Answer: It's actually a little bit lower than the stock unit and all of the existing parts like injectors and smog stuff bolt on and are re-used.
2.
Thanks for getting back to me. It would be great if detailed photos of the manifold in a disassembled state, what the underside looks like, the shape of the ports, etc.. were posted.

I've since heard that this intake system has been delayed another six months - is that true? Answer:
There haven't been any planned delays. The intake manifolds just take a loooong time to get out tot the market.

Until we get the product ready to ship, we aren't allowed to provide any detail pics according to the boss.

3.
Thanks for keeping me updated but I should have asked - when will it be ready to ship? Answer: Unfortunately, there is no hard date. We are waiting for the castings to arrive from the foundry, then the tooling begins for the CNC process.

Whomever said 2010 looks to be right on.

not a chance. It's been on Jegs forever and the shipping date keeps changing.
