Should my motor only have 5-8" of vacuum?

I recently pulled my motor apart for inspection and gasket replacement. I bought the car and only drove it twice before tearing it down, but the vac/boost guage shows 5-8" vac at idle @800 and @ 15" is the most it ever sees off idle. I had assumed it had a large duration cam in it. I got the cam out yesterday and its a CC 276hr12 220/230 .544/.544 112LSA. All the info on mods to the car are in my sig under 87gta. Do you think this vacuum reading is correct or is there a possible leak some wear?

Valves are not adjusted, or your not throwing enough advance at it during idle.

when I pulled it apart the rocker tips would slide side to side over the valve tips so I know they were in need of adjustment,, when I hooked up the laptop to the dfi it was showing 20* advanced at idle with the est wire connected. I was able to time it with a timing light due to the SC placement

The laptop has no idea how much timing it is producing unless the initial is properly set.

You need to set the initial with the est disconnected, to whatever is set in the bin.

Unless you have a crank and cam sensor, the DFI could never know what the timing is.

One of biggest pet peeves with the SuperRam intake is vacuum leaks. My guess is that a vac leak somewhere in your superam. There are so many potential leak areas. The lid being one big one.

If adjusting valves and setting timing doesn't solve the problem, you'll need to reseal the intake.
