Help me pick a cam for 350 hsr vortec manual trans combo...
basic specs...before hand
350, 9.5 to 1 cr, tiny slp cam{210/212 on 114},slp runners, ported plenum,52 mm tb,edelbrock headers and ORY, 3 inch full catback with single in/out flowmaster, vortec heads with beehives, sdpc vortec lower base, 3.45 rear gear 9 bolt, tremec trans...
car dynoed 299 rwhp/401rwtq in that trim.
on spray it did 384rhwp/535rwtq on 75 shot wet nx single nozzle
also did 500rwhp/749 rwtq on 200 shot wet nx single nozzle
on motor car has gone 12.27@106, 125 shot went 11.40@117
i am planning to switch to stealthram, and switching the cam to something a bit healthier...
anyone have a recomendation on the cam? i think im kinda limited on lift because of my vortecs..
on the same 125 shot, with stealthram/cam swap...anybody think the car has high 10 second potential?

Re: Help me pick a cam for 350 hsr vortec manual trans combo...
I'm envious of your old configuration. I've got a 350 that I'm about to slap vortec heads on to, and wanted to stick with the TPI because I'm a TPI torque addict. Your setup has some very strong numbers, and seems like exactly what I'd be after.
The motor already has a 52mm throttle body, ported plenum, SLP runners, and a 10.5:1 long block... it's just got garbage heads, but I've got a set of SPDC vortecs sitting on my stairs. I'd planned on getting rid of those in favor of conventional heads, or looking into the HSR, but after seeing your numbers and how similar your configuration is to mine, it makes me want that.
Anyway, on to your cam. I'm no expert, and I don't have an HSR, so this may or may just be hot air, but overall, due to the powerband of the HSR, my guess is that you're going to want as much lift as you can get, and more duration that you had with the old cam. I'm not sure what lift you can get out of the vortecs with beehives, but you may want to see what it would cost to get them machined to allow for more lift. Otherwise, as you indicated, your cam selections are going to be very limited. If you get them machined, then maybe something along the lines of a 225/235 or 230/240 duration. You'll probably want to keep the LSA a hair on the wide side to help with high rpm breathing, Your compression ratio is low enough that I don't think that you're going to need a lot of overlap to keep it from knocking.
If you stick with the vortecs as-is, then honestly, you're probably just as well off just switching to 1.6 rockers and leaving the cam alone. Since lift and duration are linked together by whatever cam lobe profile you choose, your limited lift is also going to limit your duration.
Don't know if that helps or not... my mind is still on your current combo. If you decide to sell that SPDC intake, PM me.

So far sounds like you're doing things right with those numbers!
What size rockers are you currently using?
I'm currently running the rockers that came on my vortech heads when i bought them used and i think they may be killing my numbers, that is if they are the stock 1.45s which im assuming.
on v8's 1.5s from the factory are usually closer to 1.45 or so ive heard. Thinking i should move up to a 1.6 or 1.7??
But first i need to get my error codes worked out and another tune.
256rwhp 279 torq. terrible from what ive seen many other similar combos making
sorry to thread hijack

With the vortec heads you really need to get the valve guides cut down! That way you can run a decent cam. Its kinda tough to find a roller cam with good duration that dont have lift numbers into the .550 plus range As far as te 1.6 rockers go what ever cam you decide to go with really needs to match those heads.. and if they are stock vortec heads anything past roughly .510-.525 lift is point less because those heads dont flow better at high lift numbers.. you wanna watch the duration though. Id say get into the 230 range on duration look up the flow numbers on your factory head then check out this program http://www.compcams.com/camquest/

Im doin a 96 vortec right now for my car and was gonna use an LT or LT hot cam but did some research on the heads and yeah your kinda limited to about 500 or just under. They say about 480 and much more isnt all that heplful. So i descided to give the ZZZ cam a try.480 lift 235 duration at 50 I think.Ive got an HSR that I ported and the Vortec heads I ported.Hope it works.
