I’m looking at the Edelbrock ProFlo XT. I have read other topics on it as well as the Edelbrock Pro Flo. It has been questioned about stock hood clearance but I have not seen anything definitive. Can someone running these systems chime in on if the system clears a stock hood? Thanks
Hey there, I have the whole Pro Flo 4 XT style set up. It clears my 1989 IROC-Z style hood, but only just.
The throttle body just barely touches the hood insulation, as in it just barely rubs it when fully closed (doesn't leave an impression on the insulation pad). I established this by crawling up under the car (where the air dam is) with a flash light & mirror. Mind you I had no radiator in the car at that time so I had way more space to get up in the engine bay from below as a result.
At first I was worried that any movement of the engine while running may press the throttle body against the hood; however in the area it touches there is no bracing/metal underneath. With the insulation removed I would guesstimate I have about 2” of space between actual hood & throttle body.
Still in the process of wiring the car up so It has not been driven yet.
I dont know if it makes any difference in engine height/hood clearance; but I’m using Bow Tie 034 heads and factory height motor mounts & factory K member.
Please keep in mind this all applies to my ‘89 Camaro w/ factory iroc style hood. Unfortunately I cant verify if the PFXT will fit any other hoods or have height issues with aftermarket motor mounts/k members.
also for reference (as pro flo threads on clearance are limited), my pro flo with a LS1 cable throttle body clears the factory bonnet of my 91 trans am. Original engine mounts with about 120k on the clock. It DOES leave an impression on the bonnet insulation pad which I plan on locally trimming to get a better idea of how much clearance there actually is (metal to metal)
