Decal removal

I'm trying to remove an aftermarket decal from the hood of my 84 T/A. It's the louvered hood bird. A year and a half in the dessert has really discolored and cracked it in some places. The paint is still fine for another year anyway. Anyone know of a way of removing the decal without ruining the paint?

I beleive there is a buffing wheel that you can use that wont damage the paint just the decal. Thats what some body shops use to remove pin stripes. Or you can use a razor and some kind of lube. But Keep in mind all the paint the did not fade from the sun is under that decal and if you remove it you will be able to tell that there was a decal there.

I used 3M adhesive remover and a hairdryer to remove my sun cracked decals. The paint underneath didnt fade.

3M sells decal removal and adhesive removal in spray cans. Works great but is kinda expensive.

Ive taken a hot water pressure hose to take off decals befor with out damaging the paint, just start at one end and put the hose about 5-6 inches away from paint at an angle, let the hot water loosen up the glue then after 2min or so the decal starts lifting right off, if just takes a little time to get the glue heated after that it doesn't take much time untill the decal is all the way off, the only down side is that the paint under the decal is going to look 5 shades darker then the rest of the car.
