clearcoat on runners and plenum?
I am in the process of polishing my runners and plenum. I was thinking of spraying a coat of clear on them whem I get done.
Is this a good Idea or will it not hold up? Or would just a good coat of wax be best?

When I polished my fuel rails I finished them off by coating them in VHT high temp clear coat. It turn out pretty good, but I'm not sure how well it would turn out on a more visable area like the plenum and runners that have been polished? You might not want to risk wrecking all the hard work you've done.

the clear coat will dull the shine down. you can get a better shine from polishing.
the clear coat will hold up to the heat (well mine has so far)but dose not offer any advantage over just leaving it polished.
the pic att. is a pic just before it went into my engine. the runners base coat then cleared as well as the injectors an other parts you see. the paint has held up well.

Clearcoating of aluminum was done priimarily by the manufacturers for "lazy" people. They want their aluminum products to be low maintenance. If you start noticing you will see most aluminum that is clear coated is brushed or satin aluminum.
That's because it's not so critical. Buffed aluminum has a mirror like quality and it is impossible to clear it without reducing the optical clarity. Kinda' like a mirror vs. a piece of aluminum foil ..... sure you can see your reflection in both.
Aluminum that is polished to a high lustre will actually protect itself to a great degree because you have eliminated many of the pores and smoothed the surface but the rest can be protected with carnabu wax.
Here are some polishing articles.

I did it and it really dulls the finish after awhile. Even with the high temp stuff. My advice would be powdercoating.
