Totalled my car today (pics inside)....
To all of my friends on thirdgen.org, i dont know how exactly to say this. I totally love this site, and dont know what i will do now, but today i got in a head on collision and destroyed my car. It is not yet known who is at fault. I dont know what i will do now as far as another car. I have stripped it down pretty bare, and you guys can see what i had on the car in the link below, let me know if theres anything you guys might be interested in. The hood is amazingly in good shape, theres just a crack along a part of the bottom of the hood where the latch hooks up, and it still is in great shape. Well, luckily no one was seriously hurt, i just broke (dont know for sure yet) my middle finger on my right hand. Let me know what you guys think, where do i go from here?

Ouch!!! Glad no one was hurt!!! Will your insurance cover it if it is determined that it wasn't your fault?

its really hard to deal with, i mean, a part of me has died. i put alot of blood sweat and tears into this car, and to have it taken away like this really hurts. i dont know if i can get another thirdgen and go through the rebuilding process again. i dont know if i even want anything nice. im totally at a loss, and i hope the moderators dont close it, i think this is the best forum to post this in. its amazing how the single stage paint held up on the front end.

That really sucks. Didn't you have the SS hood? How much would you want for it?
That's why I wouldn't get an expensive paint job for a daily driver. Was this your first car?
I know when I totalled my 1st car (completely my fault, showing off in a parking lot ) I literally cried.

the car is history, i dont think id be up for wanting to rebuild the whole thing. im ok, a little stunned but other then that im ok. the hood i have is an ascd big block stinger hood. its sitting in my room, i'll have to take pictures of it. yes this was my first car, had it for about a year and a half. the other car i hit, a 90's camry, was able to drive away on its own, but the guy had it towed. i wouldnt wish this upon anyone, i just wanna hide under a rock and have it all go away.

well you can do two things, since it is a uni frame, get a new front clip and craddle and swap them, or use it as a parts car for you next third gen if you decide to go that way. And how did you brake your middle finger???? Sorry to hear what happen, jsut remember cars can be replaced, people can't. How did the motor hold up? Don't need one, just wondering, but by the looks of things it didn't.

Crap!!!!
man I'm sorry & feel your pain, my first camaro " an 87 V6 SC" got stolen and ended up being a total loss, I went on though and moved up to a 84 V8 SC, well not even a month ago that car got stolen also! and this one ended upgetting choped up! the engine and tranny was gone. i was really hurt, but now I'm still moving on, after getting two Camaro's stolen within a 7 month period I moving up even more and may get confirmation of an 87 IROC-Z I might get. what I would do is take something sentemental off you car. if the emblem is still in good shape get that and put it on your upcoming cmaro, make part of your car keep on living

well i just woke up from last night, it brings tears to my eyes to see that people do care . after reading this i just may get another thirdgen, but this one is a total loss. the dash shifted all the way up through the windshield, and its not looking repairable. i would love to get an 89 iroc, that way i can put my hood on it and keep my car living on. i hurt my finger when i had it in one of the loops in my grant gt steering wheel. hopefully i dont come out as the one in fault, i was in a "keep clear" zone merging into traffic when i was coming out of it a car that was traveling about 35 had just begun to turn, and we were both blinded out by cars sitting at a light. as soon as i made it out of the line of sight of the cars sitting at the light, i was smacked. well guys thanks again for the concerns, it makes me feel alot better about things-

My first car was an 83 Z28 that I bought in 1985. I had my license 10 days and I totalled the car. An 18 wheeler was approaching the road I was on and wasn't slowing for his Yield Sign. I noticed this and locked up the brakes. The car slid from 55mph to a standstill. I thought I was clear since the truck was in front of me and I was stopped. Then it happened. The rear wheels of the trailer went up and over the entire engine compartment and crushed the front clip like seen on Monster Jam. I almost saved it, but didn't realize that I was under the trailer. 10 days and she was gone. I took the insurance money (after the trucker lost his job!) and bought an 82 Z28 with every option under the sun for less than I got from the insurance. The totalled Z was a 5 speed, no ttop, no cassette, no power anything car. The new Z, CFI, TTops, cruise, tilt, power everything, custom carpeted interior, etc. Move on and up. Get that IROC you want!!!

Whenever something like this happens I dunno what to say... I wish the best for you man. The best medicine will be bitter-sweet at best, but you really should try to find another one, no matter how hard it is to start over.

Yeah, dude, that sucks. I've got a 92 RS. It was totaled once. I had just gotten my license like two days before it happened. I was coming up to a yellow light and decided to stop. Well, the old bag behind me thought I was going to keep going so she sped up so she could follow me through the red light and...well...smack right into my ***! Crushed the rear on the passenger side all the way up to the door.
Insurance and a few body guys told me it was completely totaled. I told them the F*ck off 'cause I knew it wasn't. So, I parked it in the garage and after one year and $3,800 later, my car is on the road and about to get some major upgrades. New motor (currently a worn out 305, going to go with a ZZ4/350 with 380hp), new interior, paint, tranny, rear-end, blower. It'll be nice.
Get another thirdgen. They are the best cars ever made (next to the Corvette of any year!)

Just becuase one looses a battle, doesnt meen he gives up the game...
Yup. I don't know if you believe your car has a personality, but if you do, listen to what it's telling you. Let it live on either as itself, or in pieces in another car that needs the help.
But on the other hand, don't let a preference towards thirdgens make you pass up other perfectly good vehicles for driving and/or working on.
Glad you're okay.

Sorry about your loss. THAT was a beautiful Camaro.
Here is what you do. Sell everything you don't want to re-use. There are a ton of good parts still left and it will help finance the new Z28 that will be coming your way.
I can just feel in my bones that G0D has got a good deal in the works for you, once you get to feeling a little better about things. There is a lesson to learn here, or G0D wouldn't have let it happen. Think about it and thank Him for bringing you through it all with just a broken pinkie
Then ask Him to root out a nice Z28 to replace this one for you. He's got big ears and knows what happened

well guys, i had a few good days to think things over and this is what ive decided on. i am a camaro man, in and out. i cannot live without driving an f-body without t tops, a throaty v8 and a good sound system. i am going to devote whatever parts of my car that you people want to make a few bucks, and with the cash i had saved, and the money i will make working my butt off this month and next at work, i will have a good amount of cash to be able to make a good downpayment on a newer fourthgen z28. i absolutely love a newer z28 to death, they sound awesome! they are very fast, and that monsoon system is to die for. thirdgens in my opinion look much better, with the exception of a ram air trans am, but fourth gens have alot of things right (with the exception of the motor being in a bad place). i will never leave thirdgen.org, i have met too many good people on here. if it wasnt for this site, i doubt that i would have liked camaros as much as i do. sitting bull, you are right on with what you said, and so i pretty much everyone else. i totally appreciate everyone's help and kind words, and while i loved my old car, someone up above is looking over me and things will work out for the better. i mean hey, even though my finger is bad, i still played 9 holes of golf today and played well, thats great! anyways i just wanted to thank each and every one of you guys, if it wasnt for you i dont know how i would have made it through this mess. if theres any parts of my car you guys would want, pm me. the dash pad is in excellent shape and so is alot of other things on that car. i want someone else to have that hood! i really want to be able to see my hood on someone elses car!

The interior looks black, i didnt see a good angle on your pictures on your site directory. If they are black, I am interested in the complete set of panels. Mine were grey and I painte them before I found this site, so they were done wrong, and I now have a pocky dotted interior, not a good thing. I defiantly do not feel like sanding all those panels to do it right. Might as well just buy a set of black ones

My first 3rdgen ('82 Camaro SC) got T-boned in an intersection by some kid driving his dad's brand new Accura. I was able to drive the car home, but the insurance company declared it a total loss. I almost cried as the tow truck hauled my baby away!

Hey, I know exactly how you feel. I lost my first thirdgen almost exactly a year ago. That car was the result of five years of work and five years of savings. All taken from me in an instant. There was nothing I could have done differently, it was all just gone. No way I could ever regain the countless hours of work put into it. That was the worst part of the whole experience. For the first few days, nothing anybody said made much difference. It got better with time though.
I'm glad to hear that you made it through with only minor injuries. I got fairly lucky as well, just bruised, bleeding, and beaten, broken nose and swollen face. Even worse than the loss of my time, money, and work though was the phone call I had to make from the hospital. I could hardly speak with my face swollen like it was and my nose too bloody to breath through, but I had to call my family and convince them that I was alright. Of course, I couldn't pull it off and felt awful making them worry so much.
Sorry to go wandering off the subject a little, but you brought back memories of what I went through a year ago. Like I said, it will get better. I thought the same thing as you for a while about not getting something nice, not getting another f-body. I realized though, that that was what I really wanted, so I replaced my car with another thirdgen. Anyways, I'm sorry to hear the news, and hope things work out well for you.
Good luck,
MikeS

I'm quite sorry to hear about your loss, but glad you're sticking with the right family of vehicles.....and, to aid in the moving on process, I'd LOVE to hear what interior (seats) were in the car, and call shotgun on them if they're either leather or blaack and in good shape....let me know. Aww, hell, I feel like such an *** for even asking...

I'm feelin your pain bro. Anytime a thirdgen is lost I feal bad. Glad you made it ok though. Hope you find the car you want. Dont rush it, the right one will come along. If you lived closer I'd say I knew of a car you should look at. A 87-89 Formula(not sure on year), $2800, sweat car, good condition. Anyways sorry about your loss dude. Make sure you let us know what you get .Once again good luck and *** bless

I know exactly how you feel Azure. I didn't want to ask about parts, for fear of sounding like an "Ambulance chaser" and hounding over dying loved ones. I'm just waiting to see what comes up on the classifieds when he's ready. Tweenkies, these cars become a part of us, and it's truly sad when one is lost. You aren't replacing your baby, just finding a good home for another.
