even though i wanted a thirdgen, after talking to my parents they insisted that i not get one there reasons include
they dont want me 2 have a early 90's car or 80's car that they think will nickel and dime me.
there other reason is that we will be paying top dollar insurance on a car that is over 10 years old
and its a cop magnet, saying i will get stopped for no reason.
so after long talking my parents gave me the okay on these cars
1.1993-95 taurus SHO
2.1994-95 t-bird super coupe
3.1994-97 t-bird lx
4.1994-97 cougar xr7
do u have ne other suggestions or what car i should go with
sorry to the mods for posting this i didnt know where else to get a opinoin, and i thought how much this site is a great site, how i could get great answers from this site. even thou i still dont have a 3rd gen i will try to stick around

LIES!!! lies I tell you
well, I think it sucks, after getting 2 of my third gens stolen, my insurance company tried so hard to convince me to go with something else, pffft yea right, they wanted me to get a truck I told them to mind thier own buisness.
If you have to go with something else, go for an RX7
why are you even going with Ford to begin with

I don't know what to say, I would tell them I want a thirdgen, everything they said about it being a magnet for cops etc. are bs, there a magnet if your driving 100mph on a 45 mph street.

I'd like to take this moment to write STUPID across each of your parents foreheads, insurance on a 3rd gen isnt much different from any other car, hell my CRX Si was just as much as my 86' Z28, cops pulling you over for no reason ? no they have to have a reason sorry, keep your car in the order that it should and they wont, hell insurance on my 94' Z28 6 spd was $170 / mo for me full coverage and im 19, now go tell them to get some rate quotes instead of the usual "oh my *** its a sports car, insurance will be sky high" and if you have to get an RS, jeeze.

Whether or not anyone here will admit it, they are right, any old car will nicke and dime you to death. I'd go with the tbird super coupe, my friend has one and its really a pretty nice ride, quick too.

2. Any used car is going to nickle & dime you to death. It's a fact of life. Thirdgen parts are CHEAP though. If they want a reality check, have them price some sensors for that SHO at the dealer. My thirdgens are extremely reliable. My 86 has 164k very, very hard miles on it, and it's cost me absolutely nothing to own. I put a starter solenoid in it and an alternator. Thats IT. Back and forth to Rochester for 3 years and it needed an alternator. My GTA has 133k miles on it, and although I haven't put many of the miles on it, after replacing the stuff that the previous dipstick never fixed, it's been dead reliable. My old 86 had 150k on it when I sold it and that car never cost me much either.
3. Yeah, they might be a cop magnet, but at 16, you can pretty much guarantee that you'll be getting pulled over no matter what you drive. If you're not breaking the law to begin with, you won't have anything to worry about.
Now let's break down the sh!tbox cars they have chosen for you:
1. SHO. Very nice car actually. The yamaha drivetrain is pretty reliable, but *** help you if you do break something. Big money and hard to find parts.
2. t-bird SC. Nice car. Aren't these the turbocharged 4 bangers? Hope you like rebuilding turbos.

3. t-bird LX. 3.8 liter. Head gaskets in these motors were junk. You can buy a used thirdgen for what replacing those heads will cost. Water pumps aren't much to be proud of either.
4. Cougar. See #2.
Basically your parents need a reality check. I'm sure that they are well-intentioned, but they don't seem to be well informed. I'd say show them this thread, but most of these responses will just **** them off. If it'll help, they/you can email me for information on thirdgens and reliability.
My car has about 165,000 miles on it and I haven't HAD to replace anything on it yet. It still runs perfect. As long as you find one in decent running condition and keep it PM'd (preventative maintenence) you won't have much of a problem.
Also, since we have had the car (I bought it from my father about 30,000 miles ago, and he had it for about 30,000 before that) all that needed replacement was the heater core and a powersteering hose.
Just one more opinion to take into consideration...

Not that I would condone such action, of course.

LOL!
Look at the choices they gave you? What are they? Pro-Ford?
I suppose that your parents never seriously considered a GM product.
I'm feeling for you too.
Thirdgens are reliable cars, inexpensive to maintain, and not hard on the wallet at all. Unlike those other choices you are given. The cost of maintaining a thirdgen is a lot less than any of those cars, and I can tell you (for I did have a 1993 SHO) that they are not built 1/2 as well as my Firebird is.
My SHO was falling apart after a few years.
If it is their money, have them consider the thirdgens... Since the cars are older, they are less expensive in the first place.
If you have it paid for, there are a LOT of things you can do with them.
The parts are widely available, the price of the parts are very inexpensive. (Try that with any of those models your parents suggested....)
Well, if what they say goes, it goes.
Maybe you'll find a thirdgen at the Ford dealership in good condition. Sounds to me they want to use Ford Motor credit more than anything.
