I have the huge bird vinyl decal on my hood and a pair of custom bird decals on the sail panel, how can i keep my decals from fading and peeling/cracking?

no harsh waxes or cleaning chemicals for one.......
and the most important and probably hardest is limited sunlight exposure.
sun is your enemy to all things of color, well maybe except for white, waxes and harsh cleaning chemicals will only help to advance whats eventually going to happen if you drive the car.
the best thing to do is to wash your car in the shade and at the coolest temperatures possible in a given day(not freezing obviously though) and avoid using any wax, vinyl, or other chemical that will help to dry them out.
if you care that much about them, you might want to look into getting replacements as soon as possible...parts for thirdgens are going up very fast now that more people are catching on.
