Blackouts? Legal in California?

I'm just wondering if I should spend the money on blackouts?

Are they actually legal in california? and if they are how far do you have to be able to see the breaklights

Not legal, but you might be able to get away with it. Or if u want to go the other rout, buy some VHT tint spray and tint your taillights, thats what i did and i think it looks alot cleaner than blackouts, ill try to get some pics tomorrow.

oh hey I just noticed your Cal Poly avatar

hopefully I'll be going there in 2 years but I want to get a motorcycle by then.

I don't want to kill my camaro by driving it there everyday

Dude, don't use that spray tint stuff...

For one, it doesn't look as good... and it can't be un-done if you decide you don't like it. You'd have to replace both tail light assemblies... not very cost effective.

It'll get you pulled over too at night by the cops. Infact, anything that hinders the brakes lights is considered illegal in CA.

GTS blackouts are awesome, they give a real nice and smooth look to the rear of the car, go for it!!

You can buy them through Jegs.Com for about $40.00 or so.

I've got them on my IROC, and I've only been pulled over once in a whole year of having them on.

Yeah dont worry to much about the cops. I've had mine on for 2 years now and never been pulled over for them. Funny thing is. My buddy drives 5.0 and was pulled over 3 times in within the first 2 weeks of having them on. Guess thats an extra benefit of owning a thirdgen.
Later Barrett
EDIT:I do live in Illinois though.

Just don't act like an idiot driving and don't break the law. Most cops will be cool with you as long as you don't draw attention. I used the spray on my front ones.

ya, the problem though is I'm 16 and I just got the camaro from my dad

and I just got into a accident with some crap asian car, really minor minor damages, and of course none to the camaro
I love american cars

so they are overly protective of what I do now, I wanted to take off the front license plate and they went crazy. So I guess I'll have to wait before I start modding the car
