How much for a good paintjob
It depends on the condition of the car and if you are changing colors. If the car is pretty straight to start with I would say $2500.
My materials were $1500 but my paint was pricy at near $600 a gallon. Black is cheaper paint but the body must be perfect.

Mine was 2400$, that's changing colors, shaving antenna, fitting non thirdgen marker lights into the bumper. Not horrible I suppose, take a look in the sig.
If you're mechanically inclined enough, you can save a bundle by doing most of the takedown and reassembly yourself. That is, of course, if you're going for the perfect look and going to have panels painted separately, jambs, trim, etc.

Well if you have the skills and means to do so, then I'd paint it yourself. I did mine and it cost me about 400is for all my sand paper, paint, and ect. Search some of the local shops around your town and get estiments, then find out who does the best work. Get a base/clear job. I used one stage paint which came out pretty good but could have been better if I had done it in base/clear coat instead.

Do a search, this gets asked a lot. Most of the time, it comes down to this:
You get what you pay for.
You pay $200 for a Maaco job, you will get a $200 paintjob. You pay $4000 at a good place, you should get a $4000 paintjob.
Going black huh? Excellent choice

I would advise not spending too much for a daily driver. Something cheap that will last a few years would be pefect. I'll get a pic tomorrow sometime when it's not raining. But I was driving the other day on the Interstate, and I'm passing this big rig ( I don't like to drive near them, blowout, or rocks flying) well, this huge and I mean huge rock smacks my windshield, I'm surprised it didn't crack it. Well I got out later and I figured the windshield wasn't the only place it hit, took out some good paint from my hood, and that's the best part of my car paint wise. I was pissed.

Mark,
I'm sure that you know this, but your insurance should cover you on that.

Mark,
Chances are that you are going to need a police report for the proof. Then you go out and get estimates, if they don't send you an appraiser. Then instead of you paying the deductable, they will reduce it from the amount they send you, which is how much the shop charges. They generally want you to get at least two or three quotes.
(I just did this a few months ago, so PM or email me with some other questions)
