Idea for the 82-89 Camaro guage clusters

We all know how these dashes aren't backlit like the 90-92 ones. Well... if we can get MacEwen to make white overlays that have the numbers and lines "cut out" like the 90-92 ones...then they can be backlit ! This would require that the metal faces be taken off the guages though... which could be challenging. Or they can be halfway transparent and make them look like indiglo guages where the whole guage is lit up! Think of the possibilites though... you could have a dash that looks like the one in my signature Does anybody think this is possible ?

Possible, yes. Cost effective, most likely not. If you could do it cheap, that would be cool. My dash lighting sucks. Lets try to do it. Tom

I have never took my dash apart but i think it could work. If we get enough of people who are serious about this i think we could get MacEwen to make the cutouts of the numbers and lines. I don't think that part would be hard. Getting them to light good would be a different story. I will put my 88 gauge cluster up for the chalange its only 115 mph and the redline is 5k, but will serve some purpose.

I can take care of the lighting.... lets see if MacEwen can make these. I'm sure he can use the existing ones and just make a small modification. Start emailing him !!!!!!

Hmm... Your gauges look very cool. I would like to have that in my car also (86 IROC). I think I'll skip MacEwen and try this one myself. With the wheels polished, its time for a new project. Time to go to the junk yard and get some test parts.

I'm working on somethign along these lines currently, I've taken a 110mph cluster from the junk yard to play with. I have used my dremial to cut trinagle sections in the gauges, and used the neon tape around the outside edge. I am making an indgow gauge as we speak and when I am done the guages should glow indgo.

The back lights are all pulled out and its painted black inside now.

Yeah, and think how great it would be if you put as much time into trying to refund me my $628.69 for the TPI parts I never got from you a you did trying to figure out how to light some gauges up. So, the parts got lost in the mail right? Then 2 1/2 months later the refund/money order got lost in the mail too? wow. That's amazing. How ironic. What bad luck huh? What's your name again? You told me Julian Costache right? Funny, b/c I know your name is Edmond Indre, the same as the Ebay and the 3rd gen internet scam artist. Better start taking care of this before it starts taking care of you.
