i just picked up a set of GTA wheels for my bird, but the bad thing is that they're gold. i want to paint them black. i know someone on the boards has done it so please help me out. what kind of paint did you use and what type of prep? primer? thanx

 

i painted my gold rims silver.i used aircraft stripper to take the gold paint off and then i used a met. silver engine paint .after i got the shade of silver that i wanted i sprayed the wheels with a canned clear coat. All of which i purchased at the local auto zone.

i hope that this helps.it has been a while since i completed my rims and they are still holding up great.

i know i 'should' strip the gold paint off, but is it necessary? could i get away with sanding it down and painting over? not trying to cut corners, it just seems that the paint would be hard to get out from in between all the little nooks and crannies. thanx

 

you find um at the junk yard or did you end up making a deal at the show?

 

i actually got them from a friend of a friend. hes parting out a t/a. full set of gta's for $250. not bad. getting the motor and rear too!
