Dirty Turnsignal Lamps
Dirty Turnsignal Lamps
Mine are dirty on the inside. How do I get them off to clean? How do you polish them? Can someone post some pics of polished turnsignal lamps? I'd like to see what they look like nice and clean.

There are 2 bolts for each, I think they are 10mm, but I could be wrong. They are kind of a pain in the butt to get off, but it not too bad. To clean them, I got a crapload of simple green (any other heavy duty cleaner would work too) and poured it into the lens. Shake it around, rinse, repeat. This will get most of the junk out of the inside, but the outside of the lens will still be nasty. I took sandpaper (I forget the grit, but it was fairly light), and sanded it smooth. It takes a while, so be patient. While you are at it make sure you sand off all of the raised lettering on them. The plastic will be very hazy looking now, but it should feel fairly smooth. I got a 6" Loose Buff Wheel (PN 13043) and some plastic polish (PN 13138) from www.eastwoodco.com. Put the wheel on a bench grinder and apply the polish to the wheel. Hold the lens firmly and GENTLY move it across the wheel. Dont press too hard, you'll melt the plastic lens (I learned dthis the hard way). Be patient about it and your lenses will look ALMOST like new

This is the way to do it (the way Scott_92RS described). I've done 6 sets now (both of my cars, a spare set, a friend's set, a set I'm sending to someone eventually, and an ex-girlfriend's set;; that's 6 right? I'm a few beers down now..) I started with 180 grit to take down the lettering, then sanded up to 2000 grit (not really necessary to go that high, but I'm just like that
), then the loose wheel and Eastwood plastic polish. I get comments every time on how they look like new.

I bet yuo could use a similar method, but it would probably take just short of forever
You'd probably have to get some kind of buffing wheel and mount in on a drill to do an area that large.

it really helps if you get an 8 inch extension when your taking out those bolts .The first time I took one out I did not use one and it was a pita , the second time I used an 8 inch extension , still a pita , but less of a pita .
