16, It is going to be high. I would try to stay under your parents policy, try to take a driver safety course, that helps. You will get a lower rate when you turn 21 & 25. If you get married it goes down even more. I would not be suprised if it was about 1200 every 6 months on your own. Hopefully for you it would be less. Good luck.

i pay around $1200 i think. it might be lower. this is also under my parents name. i don't pay my insurance right now because im not allowed to drive my car until the end of august.
there are to many factors for someone to give one number.
1 where you at? there will be a big difference between living in BFE north Dakota and in New Jersey where the insurance for a 16 yr old is crazy expensive (i know i used to live there)
2 grades in school
3 any points on the license yet? as soon as you get one ticket expect the $$$ to go way up
4 are you going to be listed as the primary driver?
5 or is the car under the parents names?
6 what is the value of the car? $500 or $3500?
7 full coverage?
8 what company will insure it? that makes a difference
to many factors to list
just call and find out
i pay about $1200 a year for the car and a bike full coverage on both.
but i am also 27 with no tickets on the license.

see this is why I love living in Canada
The insurance here is not private, it is a crown corporation (government owned).
at 16 I paid $109 a month for everything, collision, comprehensive, extra liability insurance etc. that is Canadian so about $55 US per month.
My dad/mom pay about $30 US for their insurance because they haven't had an accident in within 10 year period.

I'm 18, started out at $145 and after I hit 18 it dropped down to $125. I've got about 3 tickets for moving violations though. Thats with as minimalistic an insurance plan as you can have, since I can't afford much more than that anyhow. I just have to pray that nothings going to happen to it and that no serious damage will be incurred.

When I was that young with a V8 I was paying about $180 a month with my '76 TA but that didn't have just liability.
On my IROC when I was 19 or so, I paid $100 a month with good grades reduction.
Now I have the car listed as being parked most of the time with a good drivers program ( no points) and I pay $60 a month.,

With my good student discount and on my parents policy, I paid $493 for six months of just liability with Allstate. That was with my 92 RS V8. When I got my IROC, it went up to $495. I thought it would be more, but it wasn't so thats good. The easiest way to find out is call your insurance company.

I'm 22 and I pay roughly $1000 a year Canadian for the 'bird, but it's registered under my father's name. The Jimmy on the other hand, is under my name (same policy, just registered in my name) and costs me around $2400 a year. It actually went up $100 over the past year and I haven't even been pulled over once. All of the guys out there causing problems, driving my rates up; You guys need to calm down... lol
Under my parents, as a 4th car and no collision i pay around 340$ every 6 months, but actually adding my car to the policy only rasied it 155$, so basically it just shifted the money around and made the policy go up 155$ so thats what my parents make me pay
its a good deal but its also no collision
thanks

My car, in my name, $1075 every 6 months. I'm 20.
Dec 4 1998: ticket for rearending a guy in a truck. D'oh, new car dosen't stop as good as the old one!
Feb 24th 1999: Speeding ticket.
No tickets since!
Aug 24th 1999: Car got totalled in a hit n run by a stolen F150. 100% other guys fault, whoever he was.
Bought my Camaro in Feb. 2001.
So if I make it another 2 months, my record will have been perfectly clean for 3 full years, and I still pay out the ***. It'll go down when I'm 21 though.

Here's what I did:
1. Definitely get it insured under parents policy
2. Say your mom owns the car and is primary driver
3. List yourself as an occasional driver
4. Get on the honor roll (A's and B's)
$400 every six months with State Farm insurance! I don't think that's too bad at all! I did buy the car at 18, though and it was after I graduated, so it may be more like $600 for you... also we have a great reputation with State Farm; parents been with 'em since they bought their brand new 1980 Mercury Capri...

Im 17, been paying it since i was 15 and 1/2, For full coverage with a 500 deductible on a 92 Camaro RS, with the 305 in teal green (yes color matters) I pay 730 every 6 months so 1460 a year. Since I have had 1 speeding ticket for 76 in a 60, took the driving class so its not on my record. Also a ticket for following to close. But niether have affected my rates. Plus I had a vandalism and a hail damage filed on it, but it hasnt gone up for those either since they were "circumstances outside my control"
Its not bad, you just have to work a lot and plan on being broke.

I'm 16, got a '85 TA, and live near Detroit and I pay $70 per month. Not bad, except I have NO coverage at all. Only enough to drive it.
I got my license in NJ (the highest taxed state by the way when it comes to auto insurance) when i was 17 and it was only 700 a year. If you do your 6 hours with the driving school it helps, and good grades does too. The insurance company gave me a 300 dollar check because my grades were high. I don't know if that happens anywhere else, but I'm sure not complaining! the insurance company was NJ Manufacturers.
