ok guys. i finally found a pic of somebody with a motor that looks like mine. with all the wires around. so i want to know how to hide them and stuff like that so the engine bay looks cleaner.
this is castrolSi(i think that's his name) motor. i hope u dont mind me using it for my pic. it just looks the same.

The only wires that are really visible in that pic are the spark plug wires. The main thing hiding that engine are all the hoses! The LG4 in my '83 Z looked like that too. It was a big mess! I had a LB9 in my '85 and it looked a little cleaner. My LO3 is much cleaner (more organized looking that is) than the other two. I think Chevy started routing the wires and hoses in a more logical fashion as the 3rdgens progressed. I removed the coolant bypass valve and all the emissions stuff since this pic was taken. I'm gonna get rid of the AC next (once I get a delete pulley), that should clean up the engine compartment nicely.

Well, you could pull the AC, get rid of all that emissions crap (mine *fell* off. . ), you're sort of stuck with the heater hoses, radiator hose, and plug wires, but once the ac and the emissions is out, i think you will be a lot happier with your engine bay.
I am going to make the attempt to replace and reroute most of
those nasty vacuum lines. A thorough cleaning is also on the "to
do" list. I have never SEEN so many vacuum lines in all of my life.
I am getting rid of that nasty charcoal canister and that junk which
should knock down about 30% of those things. Of course, I wanted
to get a pic like that so I can later show the before and after

Though I never had that kind of problem with the engine bay, my eng bay w/ a TPI eng assy still had its stock mess. I ended up taking alot of time and patience in rebundling, rewiring, rerunning hoses, relocating misc things, pulling the entire AC system(I have t-tops and headers so I needed the room), modifying/installing a non AC unit w/ retaining the circuits to control all the climate controls. Just alot of organizing and cleaning. Heres a pic of my eng bay to see what I did. Good luck in your project

STEVE Z Looks good guys, I like the red air cover, very nice..
But I have to ask Steve Z where you got the air filter extensions like that!!! Do you have 2 cone filters on or did you run it under the car for a ram air set up... that would be perfect and pretty easy to do..
Thanks and great job..

helps to keep crankcase pressure down at high rpms. Its like a pcv on crack. its also illeagl for smog, so i have to put the oil cap back on. in all honesty, the car doesnt "need" it. although it doesnt hurt it, and it looks cool. if i had a 327 with a mini ram and turbos, youd see 2 of these but alas i dont
The dual air inlet system is from SLP(for speed density but I modded it for MAF)and that t-duct goes to an airbox on either side(that takes the cylindrical style K&Ns). The airboxes have a huge opening on the side that gets all the air from the fenderwells. It made a real difference in breathing vs the stock air canister I had with the little opening(like breathing thru a straw). STEVE Z

I've junked the A/C,smog gear and run a carb. With all this gone you could remove a substantial amount of wiring as theres not a lot needed for whats left.If you were ambitious you could re-route the wiring either inside or under the top frame rails (the ones that hold the fenders on).
