Beware! Don't buff all the time!

This is what happens to the clear coat, etc. when the car is buffed every week, thank you previous owner. The deck lid is easy enough to fix, but of course on our wonderful unibodies the roof will leave a line. New paint job here we come!

Looks like he held the buffer in the same spot for quite a while. He was probably trying to get out a chip and when he remove the buffer he found something hideous. Are there any more marks?

i dont know what he was trying to do.. it was two owners ago that did this, the paint wasnt near that bad when i first got it.. since ive had it (only drive it in the summer, storage in winter) it has gone downhill fast, and i don't know how to stop it.. I have been debating about trying to touch it up just for now so there arent the white spots - but I dont know yet.. I guess it really cant look too much worse than it does now? If I try anything, it will be on the deck lid, if I F that up, at least I can get that painted without the big line.. the paint isnt peeling, it is just dull and gone. I havent noticed any other spots starting (i ck over it with a fine toothed comb every time i wash it.) Its so frustrating cuz the rest of the car is like a frickin mirror it looks so nice.

Yeah it looks like he used way too much polishing compound on 'er. Nothing worse than someone who thinks he knows. I know of no good way to fix that and make it look good. You could try sanding and repainting, then fading it into the other paint, but the clear is going to give you troubles. There's never a bad time to learn how to spray a car.
