Yeah I know what you mean. The door slightly curves at the top. I was hoping my friend @ the machine shop could use the back end of the piece I wanted to cut out as a mold. Then very very carefully weld it back in when the new mounting holes for the different mirrors were done. I also know what you mean about the mounting positions for the mirrors. It look me a long time to find ones that would mount to a custom 'bracket' like the one I wanted to make. Lots of mirrors mount to the body with big plastic pieces, but some of them mount by the mirror arm itself. Thats when I saw the M3 mirrors (in carbon fiber no less!) with the turn signals that mounted by the mirror arm. I think it would have worked out. But I'm not sure if they would have been too small in relation to the rest of the car. Might have looked messed up!! Big car, small mirrors ... hehehhe

That 4th gen Mirror Conversion looks good. I personally favor the stock mirrors. The mirrors are such subtle looking mod. I would have thought you would pick something a little more aggressive. I think an M3 mirror would look good too. I partiall to this Bomex style mirror.

Hey Redraif, I was searching around the net and I ran across a set of 4th gen Mirrors that have the turn signals built into them like we were talking about. I hope this dosn't ruin this thread by bringing the haters here or anything, but they are from Japan. Check out the thread on Camaroz28 where they discussed it here and check out the pics of the car with them installed here

I bet you they might be a direct fit with the mirrors you installed on your bird!! That would be sweet!!

I'm wondering how a C5 mirror would look. I've seen C5 mirrors on a C4 vette (which uses the same mirrors as a thirdgen) and it looked killer. Best of all, it mounts to the door, so there's no interior games to play.

Pretty sweet car, huh. I wish that they had done something different with the hood though. I would like to see those mirrors in person. Its hard to see what they really look like because of the camaro fender. The way it goes into the mirror. I love how the leds sequence out though. Too cool!

I think i'm still partial to the bird mirrors, but hey you never know. I like the shape of them. I might be able to rig a light into them. Get a sequencing LED strip and flush mount it. The mirrors are plastic, so it would not be too hard.

I have heard a few people discuss that. They seemed so much bigger to me, but I bet they could look good. Now try to get a decent price on a set of them!

Cool mod! Hey would this work for power mirrors too? I'm guessing it wouldn't be too tough to wire it up to use the 3rd gen switch. Hey redraif, what year Firebird did those mirrors come from, I can't remember for sure, but is seems that 4th gen mirrors vary from year to year. I think the ones you have would look good on a Camaro too .

Tag on the inside of the mirror said 1997. Cool, I have an 87 and they are 97s......ok,ok.

I did not have power mirrors on my car, so I did not mess with any wiring of the mirrors. That and the place I got them from shipped them without the door switches, so I had to leave them alone. The wiring is not even routed into the car right now. When I find a 4th gen locally I will get its wiring and switches and then really have the set up.

To make yours run teh 4th gen ones, don't know what you would need to do. Probably use relays, but I have not researched it.

They would fit on a 3rd gen Camaro just like my car. We looked at some camaro doors in my basement and it is all the same. I think it would look great on a Camaro also.

I don't know how much it would enhance the appearance, but it was an idle thought, and definately would make your third gen different if you did it, but I was looking at my dad's 91 cavalier today, and his mirrors are posted right in that little window triangle, just like the third gen f-bodies. Makes me wonder how close a fit they would be.

Come to think of it, mom and my sister's escorts both have the same window triangle style mirrors.

Lookin' good redraif! The mirrors ought to be almost unnoticable (as a mod) once all gets painted. Very cool.

igotslicksNchix, THANKS FOR THAT LINK MAN!!!! OMG this is gonna rock. I didnt know they made these parts in so many sizes. I got a new weekend project ..... Gonna remove and measure out my front turn signals from my xtra 91-92 front clip I have in my garage and get started on making sequencing LED clear front turn signal for Camaro's.

I also wanna look @ the mirrors again real good and see if something can be worked in there too ....

But hey I found a better place to get the LED strips. They come pre made and stuff so its a little easier.

http://www.ledeffects.com/

Hopefully when I'm done I'll have something somewhat like this:

working where our stock front turn signals are.

I will probably go that route if I can't get the stock 4th gen covers to work.

Hmmm... I was thinkin' the same thing after driving my mom's 2000 Galant, it has little tweeters right there in black triangles that look like they might fit.

Mak: thanks!
logikal6785: I had looked at mirrors like that. I wobbled back and forth about which ones to get. I decide on the bird ones for the time being since they were bird mirrors. Keep it in the family. Plus, I thought it would be more impressive at Dayton to subtly have the 4th gen mirrors. With my luck no one will notice.

lol now i'm actually wondering how that would look, maybe i'll photoshop it later today

I did not specifically see the M3 version in a store, I saw some that NOPI and the like carry and they looked a bit cheap. The seams were obvious and I would end up having to repaint them anyway, so I figured I would go with the 4th gen version. I can always add the lights or swap later.

i think what makes those mirrors look especially good on your car is the way that the ram air I hood's sides seem to endright where the mirror dimples begin, keeping the car's lines flowing. good job, again.
