Windshield scratch. Can it be fixed?

Obviously the person i bought my car from was running the wipers without a blade on the drivers side. Needless to say, there is a nice scratch right in my view. Can it be fixed or improved in someway?
Thanx guys!
Marie

It may be fixable, look in the phonebook under glass repair or windshield repair and call around.

Yes it can be fixed to an almost unnoticable mark. I have spent ages removing a wiper scratch from my car as replacement screens are so expensive in the UK.
You need to get hold of a chemical called Cerium oxide and some 1500 wet and dry paper.
Use the wet and dry to sand down to the depth of the scratch using a very small piece and sanding as small an area as possible. Then mix the cerium oxide with water to a fairly wet paste and use a buffer to bring the shine back. Keep the glass wet and dont let it get too hot or it will crack.
Cerium oxide really does work like magic with glass, its the equivalent of T-cut (is it called this in US, paint restorer) on paint.

I had mine polished out at a automotive glass establishment for $20.
